Brian Vickers salvaged a 13th-place finish in Sunday's race at Dover International Speedway despite NASCAR's radar gun clocking the No. 83 speeding while leaving the pits twice.
The first pass-through penalty sent Brian from sixth to 17th in the running order. The second violation dropped the No. 83 to the tail end of the longest line, and Brian never could make up the laps he lost.
But the No. 83 team persevered, and Brian gained a spot in the driver standings. He's 19th 197 points from earning the Chase's 12th and final berth entering Sunday's Pocono 500. Statistically, Pocono Raceway is one of Brian's best tracks. He's qualified in the top 10 in seven of eight races and owns an average finish of 14.4, with a best mark of second in June 2005.
Teammate AJ Allmendinger also found trouble at Dover. He qualified eighth in the No. 84 Red Bull Toyota and ran in the top 20 until fuel pressure issues sent him to the garage. He returned to the race, but could do no better than 37th at the checkered flag.
AJ, whose No. 84 ranks 39th in owner points (203 points from the top 35), has made one start at Pocono. He qualified 28th and finished 39th in this race last season.
"We went to Pocono last year, made the first race and missed the second one after we crashed our primary car in practice," said AJ's crew chief, Rick Viers. "Going back, I think we have a good opportunity to gain some points. We're 39th in the points, but we haven't been gaining anything on the top 35. That's our main focus."
