RICK MAST, NO. 27 DUKE'S MAYONNAISE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW DO YOU DESCRIBE THOSE FIRST 100 LAPS FOR YOU?
"I really thought after watching last night's Busch race that everybody would have all this out of their system. This is the wildest I've seen Bristol in a while. I hope the fans are getting their money's worth. It's typical Bristol. It's cool if you're not wreckin'. It's not cool, if you're like me right now.
"The bad part is that I actually had a pretty decent race car. We had that very first caution and I kind of couldn't get down. Then we went back to green and the car was pretty awesome, and I was feeling real good about things. Then they wrecked going into three, I got out of the gas and somebody absolutely ran over me from behind. It knocked me into the car in front of me and it busted the oil cooler, so we lost 20 laps or so fixing that.
"Then I went back out there and was just trying to ride around out of the way. Somebody dropkicked somebody coming off of two and knocked the hell out of me, and when they did it destroyed my race car."
JOHNNY BENSON, NO. 10 VALVOLINE PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
HOW TOUGH WAS YOUR NIGHT?
"It was pretty tough. We got off to a bad
start, but then they got the car running pretty good. Then some pit
strategy worked in our favor. We were running at the back, got a lap down
and I actually made my lap back up. I was real happy about that.
"The car was decent and the '11' (Brett Bodine) wrecked us. Actually I didn't hit anything and was doing pretty good there, but then a couple guys piled into me after I was stopped. I thought I was going to be good to go, but then he (Bodine) wrecked us again.
"I don't know. He had an 'OK' car, but he can't pass, so he just decided he had to wreck us out of the way."
BOBBY LABONTE, NO. 18 INTERSTATE BATTERIES PONTIAC GRAND PRIX:
AFTER BEING SPUN EARLY IN THE RACE, DID YOU THINK YOU HAD A TOP FIVE CAR AT THAT TIME?
"I felt pretty good. I even had a good attitude on the radio because I knew it (an incident) was going to happen. I knew it was going to happen. But, I felt like we'd be alright if we just dodged the wrecks and we did from there."
DID YOU HAVE ANY OTHER CLOSE CALLS DURING THE RACE?
"Oh yeah. All the way up until after the race when the '28' and the '88' spun out in front of me there after they took the checkered flag. There were several times. But, I don't think we ever got any damage on the front [of the car]."
IS A TOP 10 FINISH ACCEPTABLE AFTER SPINNING EARLY?
"No, it still kind of sucks whenever we were better than we finished. The run before our last one we were making a lot of headway, but we just couldn't capitalize on it after that. We changed tires and then just didn't seem to have any grip on that last run, and dropped from fifth to eighth."
