The following are facts and figures regarding the cars Pontiac teams will be running this week during this weekend's NASCAR Winston Cup Series event at New Hampshire International Raceway.
No. 10
Johnny Benson, who comes to New Hampshire ranked ninth in the Winston Cup
point standings, last raced this chassis at Michigan in June 2000 (finished
24th). Benson posted a 14th and an 11th place finish in two New Hampshire
starts last season.
No. 14
Conseco Pontiac driver Ron Hornaday put together one of his best efforts of
the season last week at Chicagoland Speedway before an engine failure ended
his day. The A.J. Foyt Racing rookie is competing in the chassis he last
drove to a 35th place finish at Pocono Raceway in June.
No. 18
Bobby Labonte comes to New Hampshire this weekend hoping to improve on last
fall's runner-up finish here. Labonte, who is ranked ninth in the Winston
Cup points, is running the chassis he drove to a 10th place finish in May's
Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway.
No. 20
Home Depot Grand Prix driver Tony Stewart is the defending winner of this
event at New Hampshire and is hoping to make it two in a row with the same
chassis he ran in both races here last season. Stewart, who owns an average
finish of 9.0 at NHIS in four career starts, led 156 of 273 laps last July
on his to the victory.
No. 27
Mike Bliss is hoping to make his first Winston Cup start of 2001 this
weekend at New Hampshire with the chassis his team fielded at Richmond in
the Pontiac Excitement 400. This car was very competitive at Richmond,
running as high as 17th during the event before an engine failure ended the
team's bid.
No. 36
M&M's Grand Prix driver Ken Schrader has four top 10 finishes in 2001 and he
earned on them (a ninth) with this piece in the Pontiac Excitement 400 at
Richmond International Raceway. One of Schrader's two top 10 finishes last
season came at New Hampshire (a 10th) in the September event.
