QUICK NOTES
Ronald W. Weimer, president of the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) was inducted into the Automotive Hall of Fame during the group's Feb. 1 Popular Mechanics annual awards luncheon in New Orleans. ASE is the sponsor of Jim and Marlene Smith's Ultra Motorsports team and driver Mike Bliss.
John Potts, long-time staff member at Indianapolis Raceway Park, is the facility's new public relations director, succeeding Eric Powell who moved over to the media staff at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.
Chevrolet will test Feb. 9-10 at the Miami-Dade Homestead Motorsports Complex. The 1.5-mile superspeedway track was reconfigured to a traditional oval following last March's Florida Dodge Dealers 400.
The PBA Tour has renewed its sponsorship of Sealmaster Racing and driver Terry Cook. Cook will have a No. 88 signature series bowling ball in 1998, manufactured by associate team sponsor Track. Said PBA Commissioner Mark Gerberich, "We garnered tremendous exposure in and out of the bowling industry and hope to capitalize and increase our marketing efforts in 1998."
Due to the reconfiguration of Sears Point Raceway -- from 2.52 to 1.95 miles in NASCAR dimensions, by eliminating the Carousel section of the course -- the Oct. 11 Save Mart/Exide 151 will be increased from 60 to 77 laps. That's 150.15 miles.
