"No Bull 5" fan finalists announced

WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (Aug. 21, 1998) The five names are drawn. Now, one of five NASCAR Winston fans will win $1 million in Winston's No Bull 5 "They Win, You Win" sweepstakes.

Each of the five fans will attend the Pepsi Southern 500 at Darlington Raceway on Sept. 6, and one will walk away a millionaire.

The five are: Jim Chorman, 54, Staten Island, N.Y.; Patrick Fitzharris, 37, Huntington, N.Y.; Nancy Green, 57, Silver Spring, Md.; Donald Kennay, 41, Ashton, Ill.; and Robert Tisdale, 45, Newport, N.C.

Jeff Gordon's Aug. 1 victory in the Brickyard 400 at Indianapolis Motor Speedway not only made the NASCAR Winston Cup star $1 million richer as the first driver to capture the Winston No Bull 5 bonus, but it also ensured that one lucky fan would win $1 million at the next Winston No Bull 5 race, the Pepsi Southern 500.

"Having made initial contact with the five sweepstakes finalists, I can tell you that they're all counting down the hours until they're on the stage in Darlington," said Ned Leary, vice president of Winston brand marketing. "Enthusiasm is, as you would expect, through the roof with each contestant."

The five finalists were selected from a nationwide sweepstakes open to qualified adults. They will be present on the pre-race stage at Darlington, where Gordon will draw the name of the world's newest millionaire.

"We're excited to be able to build a program with the Winston No Bull 5 that not only rewards driver performance, but financially rewards fans for the performance of the drivers as well," Leary said.

Five drivers will join Chorman, Fitzharris, Green, Kennay and Tisdale in the pursuit of riches at Darlington. Gordon, Mark Martin, Bobby Labonte, Mike Skinner and Dale Earnhardt also are chasing another Winston No Bull 5 bonus at Darlington, after they finished in the top-five behind Gordon at Indianapolis.

A victory at the NASCAR Winston Cup circuit's oldest superspeedway would make one of them richer by $1 million. It also would qualify him, along with the other top-five finishers, for the 1998 season's final shot at the Winston No Bull 5 bonus at Talladega Superspeedway in the Winston 500 on Oct. 11. In addition, it would mean another five fans would be given a million-dollar opportunity at Talladega.

"All of us at Winston were beginning to wonder after the second Winston No Bull 5 race at Charlotte if we'd ever be able to give the $1 million away, to tell you the truth," Leary said. "That concern is over now because we had a winner, and now a fan is going to be $1 million richer in Darlington. We've got momentum now, and we're looking forward to giving the money away at every Winston No Bull 5 race."
