Rain shortens busiest NASCAR Winston Cup test days at Kentucky Speedway.
Ten team, two-day test cut short.

SPARTA, KY. -- Persistent showers washed out a second day of Kentucky Speedway testing for 10 NASCAR Winston Cup Pontiac and Dodge teams hoping to fine tune their race machines during a rare break in the 2003 schedule.

Among the racecars scheduled to see action on the speedway's 1.5-mile tri-oval today were the No. 32 Tide Pontiac of Ricky Craven, the No. 7 Sirius Dodge of Jimmy Spencer, the No. 4 Kodak Pontiac of Mike Skinner, the No. 45 Georgia Pacific/Sprint Dodge of Kyle Petty, the No. 10 Valvoline Pontiac of Johnny Benson and the No. 9 Dodge Dealers Dodge of Bill Elliott.

Elliott summarized the work many teams were performing in the garage area.

"We try to work on different combinations to see if something works better," Elliott said. "This race track is similar to Chicago and Kansas City, and it might help you for California, Michigan and Pocono. You just work on aero and motor combinations and try different things to see what works best."

Fans can watch all Kentucky Speedway test sessions free of charge from the area outside Turn 3 adjacent to the Kentucky Speedway Fan Center and Gift Shop. Fan Center hours are 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. The Fan Center is located at Kentucky Speedway Entrance 2 off Ky. Ste. Route 35. Updated test schedules are posted on www.kentuckyspeedway.com weekly.

Kentucky Speedway opens its 2003 season May 9-10 with ARCA RE/MAX Series "Channel 5-205" and The Louisville Courier Pole Night featuring a NASCAR Winston Cup Series autograph session with Craven, Larry Foyt, Sterling Marlin, Jeremy Mayfield, Jamie McMurray and Spencer. Country star Tammy Cochran will perform prior to "The Channel 5-205."

Racing continues June 13-14 when the NASCAR Busch Series convenes to contest "The Meijer 300 Presented by Oreo" and the NASCAR Kodak Southeast Elite Series runs "The Kentucky 150." The July 11-12 weekend features the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series "Built Ford Tough 225 Presented by the Greater Cincinnati Ford Dealers" and the NASCAR Goody's Dash Series "Kentucky 150." The Indy Racing League IndyCar Series will provide the season finale August 16-17 with "The Belterra Casino Indy 300" and Indy Racing Infiniti Pro Series "Kentucky 100."
