CHARLOTTE (May 19, 2007) -- Start the year with a Daytona 500 victory, two top-5 and five top-10 finishes in the first 10 races of the NASCAR Nextel Cup Series season and your competitors will pay attention. NASCAR Nextel Cup Series crew chiefs have noted the handy work of the No. 29 RCR Shell-Pennzoil Pit Crew by naming them the First Quarter Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew.
The Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew Award is given quarterly throughout the NASCAR Nextel Cup Season. At the end of each quarter, the winning pit crew is determined by a vote of each team's crew chief. The four quarterly winners are eligible for the year-end Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew Award and a check for $100,000 awarded at the 2007 NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Awards Banquet at the Waldorf Astoria in New York City.
The No. 29 RCR Shell-Pennzoil Pit Crew helped driver Kevin Harvick kick off the season with a Daytona 500 victory. The No. 29 team also finished fourth at Bristol Motor
Speedway, sixth at Talladega Superspeedway, seventh at Richmond International Raceway and 10th at Phoenix International Raceway.
"The pit crew for the No. 29 RCR Shell-Pennzoil team goes out each week and does its best to keep me at the front of the pack," said Harvick. "This season the pit crew deserves most of the credit for our hot start. These guys do great work and I am proud of the job they have done so far this season."
Through the first quarter of the season the No. 29 RCR Shell-Pennzoil team is ranked eighth in driver points and has lead 187 laps through the first 10 races.
"The No. 29 RCR Shell-Pennzoil Pit Crew has had an outstanding year so far and we look forward to getting better as the season progresses," said Todd Berrier, crew chief of the No. 29 RCR Shell-Pennzoil team. "Every season our goal is to win the Nextel Cup championship and this season they have done a great job putting us in contention from the very start."
"The Mechanix Wear Most Valuable Pit Crew Award is designed to recognize the men and women who pride themselves on working together to benefit their team each week," said Bari Waalk, Mechanix Wear director of marketing. "The No. 29 RCR Shell Pennzoil Pit Crew has won the respect of their peers through the first quarter of the season for the outstanding work they have done each week."
