RCR to field eight full-time NASCAR teams in 2017 - most since 2011
Richard Childress Racing announced Wednesday it will field eight full-time teams in NASCAR national series competition in 2017, the most for the organization since 2011.
Returning in the Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series will be Austin Dillon in the No. 3 Chevrolet, Ryan Newman in the No. 31 Chevrolet and Paul Menard in the No. 27 Chevrolet. Richard “Slugger” Labbe, Luke Lambert and Matt Borland will serve as the three drivers’ respective crew chiefs.
Drive for five in Xfinity Series
RCR will also field five full-time teams in the Xfinity Series, a record for the organization.
In addition to three teams competing for the series’ driver championship, RCR will also field two full-time teams that will use multiple drivers throughout the 2017 season.
Austin Dillon and Menard will be the primary drivers for the No. 2, with second-year crew chief Justin Alexander atop the pit box. Ty Dillon will remain with the No. 3 team and will partner with rookie crew chief Matt Swiderski.
Additional drivers for RCR's Nos. 2 and No. 3 teams will be named at a later date.
Pair of drivers return as well
Brandon Jones and Brendan Gaughan return with full-time driving duties of the No. 33 and No. 62 Chevrolets, respectively, and will be joined by rookie Daniel Hemric, who will drive the No. 21 Chevrolet.
Jones and veteran crew chief Nick Harrison will be paired together, while Gaughan returns with his long-time crew chief, Shane Wilson. Two-time NASCAR championship winning crew chief Danny Stockman will work with Hemric.
