Team Chevy Drivers Score Three of Top-Five Starting Positions at Richmond

Richmond - Three Team Chevy drivers, led by Jimmie Johnson, No. 48 Lowe's/Kobalt Tools Chevrolet in the third starting spot, will start in the top-five tomorrow night in The Heath Calhoun 400.

Jeff Gordon put the No. 24 DuPont Chevrolet in the fourth starting position at Richmond International Raceway. Ryan Newman, No. 39 US Army Medicine Chevrolet will roll off in the fifth position.

Kevin Harvick, No. 29 Reese's Chevrolet, last week's winner at Talladega, will take the green from the seventh spot on the grid followed by Jamie McMurray, No. 1 Bass Pro Shops/Tracker Boats Chevrolet in eighth position. Clint Bowyer, No. 33 BB&T Chevrolet, will roll off 10th place in the 43-car field.

A total of 15 Chevrolet drivers qualified for the 10th race of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series season.

Kyle Busch (Toyota) won the pole. David Reutimann (Toyota) completed the top-five qualifiers.

JIMMIE JOHNSON, NO. 48 LOWE'S/KOBALT TOOLS CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 3RD:

"I hope you had that on camera.(LAUGHS) I mean everybody wants the controversy, maybe if I throw my Gatorade at him (LAUGHS) it will start something and get everybody talking some more. (LAUGHS). Aside from having a little fun there, great lap for us. We kind of found our way late in practice. Chad (Knaus, crew chief) made some decisions on what we needed for qualifying. The first lap was a little sketchy but the second lap was good. I am pretty happy with it."

***

JEFF GORDON, NO. 24 DUPONT CHEVROLET, QUALIFIED 4TH:

TALK ABOUT YOUR QUALIFYING RUN OUT THERE: "I am excited about me having a shot at starting in the top-five. When I saw everybody picking up so much, I just wasn't sure if those last couple of runs that we made in practice if we went in the right direction. The car was really good and I got in the corners deep. The No. 48 didn't have a great day but he qualified really well. Same ole thing for them. You know they are going to be tough all night so we'll have a lot of fun out there racing with them like we have been. Hopefully it will be us battling for the win. I think anybody would like to see that more than us."

***

RYAN NEWMAN, NO. 39 ARMY MEDICINE CHEVROLET -- QUALIFIED 5TH

"We unloaded pretty good with the Army Medicine Chevrolet and we were pretty good in race trim and we actually got some traffic in our qualifying lap so I didn't expect to be 18th where we were. Don't know if we would have had a shot at Kyle (Busch). So it was a good run for the Army Medicine Chevrolet."

***

JAMIE MCMURRAY, NO. 1 BASS PRO SHOPS CHEVROLET -- QUALIFIED 8TH

"Our Bass Pro Chops Chevy was good in practice. I thought race-trim wise, that's what most guys did in the first practice, I thought we were one of the better cars. This hasn't really been a very good track for me so the fact that we were fastest in that practice and we're pretty good in qualifying means they've given me a really good car. We'll have to wait and see. We've had a really fun week going turkey hunting and fishing with all the guys from Bass Pro Shops, so to have a good run would be great.
