Cassill to Start Post-9/11 GI Bill Chevy from 14th Row at Richmond

Richmond, VA, (Sept. 10, 2010) - Landon Cassill qualified the No. 71 Post-9/11 GI Bill Chevrolet Impala SS on the 14th row for tomorrow evening's running of the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Air Guard 400 presented by the Post 9/11-GI Bill to be run at Richmond International Raceway.

Cassill had a strong car right off of the trailer. The TRG Motorsports crew set about adjusting the car to suit the specific needs of the tricky D-shaped, three-quarter mile Richmond track. In practice, Cassill provided good feedback to Dan Stillman, TRG Motorsports crew chief. The duo combined to put a strong set-up on the car, ranking the No. 71 in the top 30 in the best consecutive 10-laps run average. The Cedar Rapids, Iowa native posted a qualifying time of 21.461 with an average speed of 125 mph good for a 28th place starting position.

"We were pretty good right off of the trailer," Cassill said. "The key here is to be able to carry momentum and roll through the center of the turns, so our set-up focus was on that aspect most of the day. The car was responding to the adjustments that the guys were making, so we were able to go through quite a lot of options. We were able to make race set-up and qualifying runs, the team was really clicking."

The Post-9/11 GI Bill team drew the fourth place qualifying position giving them the luxury of having nearly the same conditions as they practiced, but with slightly higher temperatures than those who would go later would witness.

"In qualifying I kind of missed my mark in Turns One and Two. I still got a good first lap in and the time should reflected that run. I have a lot of confidence in the car and we have it handling, which is key to doing well at Richmond."

The evening temperature for the race will be at least 15-degrees cooler than the day time practice temperatures, leaving the crew with the challenge of keeping the Post-9/11 GI Bill Chevy in tune with the track.

"We had a good car in practice and one that I feel comfortable racing. The track will be cooler so we will need to build in some adjustability so we can keep up with the track as it changes. There is also an element of saving the car for the end. This track can be tough on brakes. The plan is to take what the competitors give me and what the track offers for the first 250 laps and then race the last 150."

Kevin Buckler, team principal, has the team on top of the Post-9/11 GI Bill Chevy, he will also have to have them strong in the pits as well.

"Landon and the TRG Motorsports guys have the car ready to go," Buckler said. "We are going into tomorrow's race with a car that really practiced well. We will need to have everything firing on all cylinders tomorrow night. At a short track like this we will be focused on fast and efficient pit stops so we can keep our track position. This has been a great week for us and we are enjoying working with everyone from the Veterans Administration. We are getting the message out on the Post-9/11 GI Bill and looking to give them a very strong run on the track tomorrow night."
