At the Pontiac Excitement 400 at Richmond International Raceway in June, Schrader started seventh, moved into the top five early and remained there for most of the race. Then he was running eighth when a caution came out and Petree made the call for Schrader to stay on the race track, advancing him to second position. Schrader, still second, was holding off Terry Labonte (third place) and gaining on race leader Dale Jarrett when the red flag came out after an incident that left oil on the track. There were four laps remaining when the race went back green, but Schrader was passed by Labonte and Rusty Wallace and went on to finish fourth.
"We had planned to bring the same car we ran at Richmond in June, but unfortunately we wrecked that car at New Hampshire a couple of weeks ago," said Andy Petree, car owner and crew chief of the Skoal Bandit Racing Chevrolet. "Although wrecking that car set us back a little, we still feel we have a very good car for the race this weekend. We took the car to Greenville-Pickens last week and made some laps. Overall, we were satisfied and I think we should be just as strong this weekend as we were in June."
The Skoal Bandit Racing team will utilize the same car they debuted at the Brickyard 400 last month at Indianapolis Motor Speedway. "The Skoal Bandit Racing team is ready for Richmond," said Schrader. "We tested our Richmond car at Greenville (S.C.) Pickens Speedway last week and we were pleased with the results. Our last visit to Richmond came up a little short, but this time we're ready." Despite its top-10 finish in its debut, this car has yet to be nicknamed by the team.
Ken Schrader will pull double duty this weekend driving the No. 15 Oakwood Homes Chevrolet in the Auto Lite Platinum 250 on Friday night.
