Rockingham Gives Team Ups Good Boost For 2002

ROCKINGHAM, N.C., February 19, 2002 --- With the excitement of Speedweeks in the history books, the NASCAR Winston Cup Series digs into the 2002 season with the next stop being the North Carolina Speedway in Rockingham, N.C. Dale Jarrett and the #88 UPS Racing team have put together stout performances at the one-mile track since the team's inception in 1996. The #88 team has finished outside the top five at Rockingham only two times but weren't outside the top 10 (10th-place during spring 2001 and seventh during spring 1998). The Subway 400 will be broadcast live Sunday, February 24 at 1 p.m. EST on Fox.

Jarrett Looks To Dig Into Rest Of 2002 Season At Rockingham.
"Rockingham is a track that has always been good for us and for this team. As good as this team has run here it's hard to believe we only have one win at this track. We're looking forward to getting to Rockingham and really digging into the rest of the season. So much work goes into the preparation for the Daytona 500 that we kind of lose sight of the fact that that is just one race out of 36. We ran a lot better than I though we might last weekend. We put ourselves in position to try to win or at least have a good finish but came up a little short. It feels good coming to a track that has been fairly good to us and getting a good points race."

Consistency Is Key To 2002 Title For Jarrett And Team UPS
As a former Winston Cup champion, Jarrett knows what it takes to be at the front of the pack when the 2002 season ends. The #88 team was in championship form at the beginning of the 2001 season, but rules changes midway through the year set the UPS Racing team back a little in the championship hunt. Team UPS plans to start 2002 on the right foot and stay there through the season-ending event at Homestead-Miami Speedway.

"We just didn't do our job the last part of 2001," Jarrett explained. "It was great battling back and forth and having Ricky right there too. We thought it was going to be a great battle to the end but, unfortunately, Ricky and I kind of fell off. We did a little more than Ricky did, so that's what we have to look at this year. We have to be able to maintain that consistency because that's what this series is about. Certainly you want to win races and you want to have top fives, but what it really comes down to when you look at it at the end of the year, is that the champion is the person who has the fewest amount of problems. That's really what it comes down to."

UPS To Deliver Trackside At Rockingham
UPS introduced its new Trackside Shipping Services last week at Daytona International Speedway. UPS will deliver trackside at the North Carolina Speedway this weekend beginning Friday morning at 9 a.m.

The trackside shipping address for this weekend is North Carolina Speedway, 2152 North US Highway 1, Rockingham, N.C. 28380. Packages coming into North Carolina Speedway need to have the green trackside label to be delivered to the trackside booth located in the NASCAR Winston Cup garage. The booth stays open until two hours after the race ends. The UPS Trackside Services information telephone number is (404) 664-4928.
