Gordon wins at North Carolina Speedway!
Jeff Gordon has won his second consecutive GM Goodwrench Service Plus 400 at North Carolina Speedway. From the fourth starting postion, Gordon battled handling problems early in the event dropping him to the middle of the field after the first pit stop. Gordon, with his smooth driving style and excellent pit work by the Rainbow Warriors, gradually moved to the front.
This was the DuPont Refinishes Chevrolet first win of the 1998 season. It was the third time he has won at the "The Rock". Gordon led 73 of 393 laps in his Chevrolet Monte Carlo, to finish 33 points ahead of Daytona winner Dale Earnhardt. Earnhardt finished 17th, one lap down.
Rusty Wallace finished in second place, followed by Mark Martin, Jimmy Spencer and Geoff Bodine. Bill Elliott, Dale Jarrett, Terry Labonte, Bobby Hamilton, and Ricky Craven finished in positions 6-10.
