Ricky Rudd grabbed the top spot for Sunday's Sirius Satellite Radio at the Glen after he turned a fast lap in his No. 28 Ford in a time of 71.885 seconds, a speed of 122.696 mph.

This marks Rudd's first Bud Pole Award of the season. "That's actually quicker than I expected. After I made my run I was a little disappointed because it was running so good, it didn't feel that fast."

DEI's Michael Waltrip who seems to be the strongest on superspeedways, showed his racing diversity after he pulled out the second fastest lap of the day. Waltrip will start alongside Rudd in row one after he ran his No. 15 Chevrolet at a top speed of 122.635 mph.

Indianapolis winners Tony Stewart and Bill Elliott will line up third and fourth. Stewart, who won the pole for the Brickyard turned his No. 20 Joe Gibbs Racing Pontiac at a top speed of122.485 mph. While last week's race winner, Elliott, ran 122.425 mph.

Penske's Ryan Newman was again the highest qualifying rookie and will roll off of the grid fifth alongside RCR driver Kevin Harvick in sixth. Harvick's teammate, and road course graduate Robby Gordon will start seventh.

Roush Racing's Matt Kenseth and Kurt Busch will line up eighth and ninth while Newman's Penske stablemate Rusty Wallace closes out the top-10 starters.

Jimmy Spencer has been going through some turmoil as of late. Spencer, who is the owner of the Spencer Motor Ventures No. 34 in the Busch Series, recently replaced driver Stuart Kirby with Steve Grissom. Last weekend at the Brickyard, his ongoing rivalry with Roush Racing's Kurt Busch reignited and today, he failed to qualify at the Glen after running the slowest lap of the day at 115.654 mph.

Spencer's car owner, Chip Ganassi, entered road racer Scott Pruett in the No. 41 Dodge and moved Spencer to the 42. Pruett qualified 19th with a speed of 121.467 mph, safely in the field.

Ganassi's other car, driven by current points leader Sterling Marlin, will have to drop to the rear of the field after losing an engine in practice prior to qualifying. Although he will have to surrender his starting spot, Marlin ran a fast lap good enough for the 28th starting spot. Joining Marlin at the rear, will be Hendrick Motorsports' Jimmie Johnson. Johnson will have to relinquish his 12th place run, as he to blew an engine in the morning practice session.
