MARK MARTIN - No. 6 Viagra Taurus (Finished 8th)
"We just didn't have the setup to make it a rocket ship. We had the pit stops, the pit crew, the strategy, the gas mileage, the horsepower. We had the high-speed corners, but in the low-speed corners we were a little slow through those and I had to give up a little bit right there. If we would have had the low-speed corners as good as the high-speed corners, we could have run with the top five."
THIS TEAM HAS BEEN STRONG EVEN THOUGH THE RESULTS HAVEN'T SHOWN IT OF LATE. "Yeah, every week. We had an off day and still ran eighth, so I think that speaks highly of this team."
GREG BIFFLE - No. 16 National Guard/Subway Taurus (Finished 13th)
"We kind of got hurt on fuel. We ran out of gas here last year running out front - we ran out of fuel - and we did the same thing this time."
ELLIOTT SADLER - No. 38 M&M's Taurus (Finished 10th)
"We said last night if we can finish in the top 15 we're gonna be ecstatic. This is a wild card race where anything can happen. I made a big mistake at the beginning of the race and never heard a word from the guys. They didn't complain one bit. We stuck in there and hung in there together. We had great pit stops, so a 10th-place finish is great for this program. We had great brakes all day and a great transmission. I put them through the works and they lasted."
YOU PASSED EARNHARDT, JR. TO GAIN A SPOT DOWN THE STRETCH. "Yeah, I was just kind of saving my brakes and motor behind him. I could tell he was getting looser and looser and I didn't want to put either one of us in a compromising position, and finally he made a really big mistake and I got by him. I wasn't gonna push the issue with him. I was just really comfortable riding there and saving my stuff for the end. He made a mistake and I got by him and was able to pull away from him. It was just a great race all day. We had great pit stops. I'm proud of my motor guys and everybody. For me to come out here and finish 10th shows you how good this race team really is."
JEFF BURTON - No. 99 Roush Racing Taurus (Finished 9th)
"We ran 10th most of the day and eighth as well, so that's probably what we deserved. We were pretty good yesterday, so we just fought and stayed out of trouble to make sure we didn't turn a 10th into a 25th. We had great strategy by everybody because I ran out of gas coming to the trailer. It was a good day for us. I think you can tell we're starting to turn the corner. We're starting to knock down top 10s and it feels good."
YOU JUST KEEP BUILDING ON FINISHES LIKE THIS. "Yeah, it's no coincidence we've been running well and we're in the top 10 now. We're good enough to do that, so if we keep improving we'll be OK."
DALE JARRETT - No. 88 UPS Taurus (Finished 18th)
"We cut a tire down on one of the restarts. That wasn't the time we needed to be pitting and that threw us out of sequence. That's just a bad break. I didn't feel anything whenever we were riding around and then as soon as I hit the gas off of turn 11 for the restart, I told them that I thought I had a flat tire. It ended up the right rear was going down, and then the caution came out and we were lucky not to be a lap down. We were at the tail end, so to finish 18th wasn't too bad really."
JIMMY FENNIG, Crew Chief - No. 97 Sharpie/IRWIN Taurus (Busch finished 36th)
WHAT HAPPENED? "The distributor wires shorted out against the oil line that fills the valve springs and melted a hole in it. That cost us everything, but we also had fuel issues with the pick-up in the fuel cell. It would only pick up 10 laps worth and then she would quit running and she'd start sucking air from somewhere, so it's got to be a line inside of there. Once the ignition box melted and quit, that's what cost us everything. We fell back to fifth and that melted and put a hole in the line."
