NASCAR Winston Cup Drivers Tackle Road Course at Sears Point Raceway, June 22-25

WHAT: Sears Point Raceway will host the Save Mart/Kragen 350 NASCAR Winston Cup, June 22-25. Forty-three drivers will tackle the twisting 10-turn, 1.95-mile road course. This is one of just two road-course events on the 34-race NASCAR schedule. This is the 16th event of the Winston Cup season. The weekend will also feature the Snap-On Tools/AAA 200 NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series.

WHERE: Sears Point Raceway, Highways 37 & 121, Sonoma.

WHEN: Thursday, June 22-Sunday, June 25.

COURSE: Racers will compete on the 10-turn, 1.95-mile road course.

WHO: Jeff Gordon will look to become the first three-time winner at Sears Point. Gordon has won the last two years and has also started on the pole the last two years. Moreover, Gordon has won the last five events on road courses (two at Sears Point and three at Watkins Glen, N.Y.), making him the overwhelming favorite. Other past Sears Point winners who will challenge include Mark Martin (1997), Dale Earnhardt (1995) and Rusty Wallace (1990, 1996). The race will span 112 laps.

NOTES: Martin has finished no lower than eighth at Sears Point since 1994.

John Andretti has placed third the last two years. Andretti rallied from a 31st starting position last year to take third. It was the biggest improvement ever at Sears Point

Sears Point remains Earnhardt's lone road-course win.

Ford (five) and Chevrolet (four) have accounted for nine victories at Sears Point. Buick and Pontiac each have one victory.

Ricky Rudd has started on the pole at Sears Point a record four times.

Michael Waltrip has completed the most laps at Sears Point (884).

Wallace has led the most laps at Sears Point (148).

PAST WINNERS: Rudd (1989), Wallace (1990, '96 ), Davey Allison (1991), Ernie Irvan (1992, '94), Geoffrey Bodine (1993), Dale Earnhardt (1995), Martin (1997), Gordon (1998, '99).

OTHER: The racing weekend will also feature the Snap-On Tools/AAA 200 NASCAR Featherlite Southwest Series race on Saturday, June 24. Matt Crafton held the series lead through the first five events, with MK Kanke second and Fairfield's Jim Inglebright third. An exciting addition to the Series this year is Sean Woodside, who won the NASCAR Winston West Series title last year. Woodside sat in fifth place after five events with a victory coming at Bakersfield. Kurt Busch, who won last year's Southwest Series event at Sears Point, has since elevated to the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series with Jack Roush Racing. The race will span 64 laps.
