This Weekend's Cheerios/Hamburger Helper Chevrolet Impala at Infineon Raceway ... Clint Bowyer will pilot Chassis No. 300 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This is a brand new Chevrolet Impala that will be put through its first paces this weekend.
CLINT BOWYER:
You've had some solid finishes at Infineon. Are you excited to be heading back there?
"We are excited about heading back to Infineon. I've had two fourth-place finishes and an eight-place finish the last three times we've raced there. It's been a good race track for us and we've had a lot of good fortune on that track. It always comes down to fuel mileage. We've been able to play out the right strategy and maintain our track positions all day to put ourselves in a position for a solid finish. I love Sonoma. It's a fun race track. It's also a challenging race track, but we're looking to have another strong run this time around."
How have you become such a good road course racer?
"Well, I struggle at Watkins Glen. I've had a hard time finding speed at The Glen, but speed came to me quickly at Sonoma. Infineon seems to fit my driving style, or maybe it's my attitude (laughs), better for some reason."
Can you pin point exactly why you have more success at Sonoma, compared to Watkins Glen?
"I think once you have a good run at a track, the confidence you have breeds more success there. The confidence of knowing you can run well there helps out a lot."
What do you like the most about Infineon?
"I like the rhythm of the race track. I've been able to find that rhythm while driving there. Sometimes, finding that rhythm is hard to do at a road course, but I've been able to find a good pace at Sonoma. I believe that's why we've been able to run well there each season."
Can you talk a little about the elevation changes at Sonoma?
"It's pretty cool. You run up a hill heading into (turn) one and then down the hill as you head into turn two. Sonoma can be challenging at times, but it's just a fun race track. The guy that makes the fewest mistakes usually prevails there. There is nothing more fun than being at a track where that is the case. You see a guy in front of you slipping and sliding and you're laughing. Then, you get by him and, next thing you know, you slip and slide and he gets back around you. You're like, 'oh man!' But, it's a blast! That is what makes the racing there so much fun. It's that competitive part of it that you can't beat."
