Suspects arrested in break-in of NASCAR owner Richard Childress' home

The Davidson County (N.C.) Sheriff’s Office issued a news release Tuesday indicating it had arrested three individuals on Dec. 29 for the attempted first degree burglary of the Childress residence.

The three men arrested are: Niquan Victorin, 20, of Winston-Salem, N.C.; Chantz Kade Hines, 18, of Winston-Salem; and Armeka Vantonne Spinks of Salisbury, N.C.

All three are charged with first-degree burglary and first-degree trespassing and being held on $250,000 secured bond. They are scheduled to appear in Lexington (N.C.) District Court on Jan. 29.

According to the Davidson County Sheriff's Office, investigators learned from the Winston-Salem Police Department that three firearms used at Childress' home matched firearms that had been stolen on Dec. 15 in a break-in in Winston-Salem.

Three suspects were identified in the Dec. 15 firearm theft and after further investigation, it was learned that all three of those suspects matched the physical descriptions of the suspects in the Childress attempted burglary. 

Evidence was found during the subsequent execution of two search warrants of two residences in Winston-Salem connecting the three suspects to both the Dec. 15 break-in and the attempted burglary at Childress' home on Hampton Road in Davidson County.

Childress and his wife, Judy, were at home on Dec. 17 when they heard a crash on the lower-level of their house at approximately 10:30 p.m., the sheriff’s office said. The burglars – caught on surveillance camera video – entered the home by breaking a window next to a doorknob, which activated an alarm.

Childress heard the crash of the glass and retrieved his own weapon before going to investigate, the sheriff’s office said. When he saw the people inside his house, he fired at them.

Neither Childress nor the suspects were injured.

A reward of up to $50,000 had been offered for information on the break-in that would lead to the identity and arrest of the suspects.
