"Since we only run on the big tracks a couple of times a year, I really enjoy competing on superspeedways. The biggest thing I want to get out of this race is more drafting experience. I've competed on superspeedways in our Busch car several times and I've run a Winston Cup car three times on superspeedways. These are tough tracks to earn respect on and you need partners out there to help you get to the front. I'm hoping for a strong race and I hope to run up front." - Buckshot Jones, driver of the No.30 Jimmy Dean Pontiac Grand Prix
Jones to Drive the No.30 Jimmy Dean Pontiac Grand Prix
Buckshot Jones will be piloting the No.30 Jimmy Dean Pontiac this weekend when he attempts to make his third career Winston Cup start at Talladega Superspeedway. Jones has posted impressive runs in his previous two Talladega Superspeedway starts. In October 1998, he started the Winston 500 in 11th position and finished 16th. In April of this year, Jones recorded the fastest second round qualifying time to start 26th and finish 21st.
National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month
Jones produced several Public Service Announcements this week to promote National Drunk and Drugged Driving Prevention Month in December. The announcements were taped on October 11 for the Department of Health and Environmental Control and Emergency Medical Services Youth Highway Safety Campaign along with Greenville Technical College and the South Carolina EMS. The PSAs will run in December throughout South Carolina.
Jimmy Dean / Pontiac Sweepstakes
In the infield media center on Friday, October 15 at 10:30a.m., Buckshot Jones will draw the winners of the Jimmy Dean/Pontiac Sweepstakes at a press conference including Bobby Labonte and Tony Stewart. The Sweepstakes is a tie-in between Firebird's 30th anniversary, Pontiac Racing and Jimmy Dean's 30th anniversary.
