CAT Team returns to plate racing.
"We'll see how the change with the fuel cell will affect the packs that we've been forced to drive in at the restrictor plate races. I think it will shake things up some, but we still could have some big packs if everyone stays on the same pit sequence or if we have a lot of cautions. We'll just have to wait and see. But, we do have to give NASCAR credit for trying to break the pack up without a bunch of changes to the cars."
-Ward Burton, driver of the Caterpillar Racing Dodge
STODDARD ON THE NEW FUEL CELL RULE:
"I believe the change will shuffle things up. NASCAR is trying to prevent everyone from being in one big pack. The smaller fuel cell (13 gallons) will force teams to pit more often and have many teams on a different pit sequence. But, one bad pit stop could take you from contention and end your day, especially if the race goes green for a long time. I applaud them (NASCAR) for making an effort to break things up and it will be interesting to see how that all shakes up."
DAVIS ON STODDARD JOINING BILL DAVIS RACING:
"Certainly I am very thankful to Frank for accepting this position on very short notice. It's not how I wanted him to get started at Bill Davis Racing, but I am looking forward to what he can bring to our organization. He is one of the best at calling a race from pit road and I feel like his experience and knowledge of the sport will contribute a lot to a team with so much potential. My hope is that over the next seven races Frank will feel at home at Bill Davis Racing and want to continue that relationship for many years to come. I am certainly looking forward to all that he can bring to our team.
CAT EQUIPMENT:
The Caterpillar Racing team returns to restrictor plate racing with the car they have been hauling around as a backup at Daytona and Talladega. Following the Daytona 500, the CAT team built a new car and ran it at Talladega in April and Daytona in July. Not pleased with the performance, the CAT team opted to switch the primary and backup cars - the primary car is now the backup and the backup gets a chance at victory lane.
