Nadeau, U.S. Army Team take momentum to Talladega.

TALLADEGA, Ala. (April 1, 2003) - Following an impressive fourth place finish at last week's NASCAR Winston Cup race in Texas, the goal for United States Army driver Jerry Nadeau and crew chief Ryan Pemberton is to maintain the rhythm and carry the momentum into Sunday's Aaron's 499 at Talladega Superspeedway.

"The Texas race was a big morale boost as we head into Talladega," said Nadeau. "Everything came together and right now we're feeling pretty good and looking forward to building on the pace we set in Texas."

It's not only the Texas result that has Nadeau in the right spirits for the Talladega restrictor plate race on the 2.66-mile tri-oval.

"We proved in Daytona that we have a good [restrictor] plate program," said Nadeau. "We feel we were shortchanged there because of a pit road incident and then the race being called because of rain."

What Nadeau was referring to is how well the No. 01 U.S. Army Pontiac Grand Prix ran during the Daytona 500 season opener in February. Though he started in the back of the pack, Nadeau eventually had his black and gold car running in the top five. But a pit road mishap on lap 95 stalled the momentum and before he could work his way back to the front, the race was called (on lap 109) due to lingering rain.

"Jerry's ability to draft is a big plus for us," said Pemberton. "Although we'll have a different car in Talladega than we had in Daytona, we learned what Jerry likes for a superspeedway setup and plan on giving him the same package again."

Nadeau said he will welcome that package.

"That was one great setup in Daytona," said Nadeau. "We need to have that again because being in the lead draft at Talladega is critical. You have to avoid getting shuffled out of the draft and dropping way back in the field. As we have seen many times, if you're in the lead draft with a few laps to go, you have an good shot of winning."

The Talladega race will be the eighth of the season and will be televised on FOX, beginning with a one-hour prerace show at noon Eastern.
