ELLIOTT ON TESTING AT TEXAS:

"We tested for two days. I think we learned a lot, but we're still trying to get a handle on where we're at with this car and trying to get things squared away from that side. Ray and all the guys have worked really hard trying to get the Dodge where it's at, and I feel like Kasey had a pretty good run at Atlanta and we ran pretty decent toward the middle and end of the race, but still, it's going to be ongoing work as far as getting things going in the right direction. It's a constant battle with the changes NASCAR made. It's a struggle not only for us but all the teams."

ELLIOTT ON HIS ROLE AT EVERNHAM MOTORSPORTS:

"As Ray gets more into his driver development, I feel like my role will change quite a bit. I'm still doing a fair amount of testing for them and will continue on that. Ray is concentrating on trying to get this thing worked out as far as where they're at within this season. Chris (team director, Andrews) and I have been concentrating more on the races for Stanley Tools and the folks as it stands here today. The roles have changed a little bit this year versus last year. As Erin Crocker comes on and more people like that, then my role will change as far as trying to help them, especially at events we can tie in when I'm there."

RACE NOTES

* This will be Bill Elliott's third regular season start in 2005 and his second start in the No. 91 Stanley Tools Dodge Charger.

* Elliott is scheduled to drive EMS chassis No. 103 this weekend at California. Elliott tested the chassis at Fontana in February.

CAREER AT TEXAS

* This weekend's race will mark Elliott's ninth career start at Texas Motor Speedway. He has one pole position and one top-10 finish at the track -- both earned in the 2002 race.

* Elliott has led laps in the last three races at Texas, for a total of 82 laps led.

QUALIFYING RECORD

* Elliott holds the Texas Motor Speedway qualifying record with a lap of 27.803-sec./194.224 mph, which he set in the 2002 race. The lap was more than a full mile-per-hour faster the second-place qualifying time that day, and wiped out the previous track record by more than two miles-per-hour (Terry Labonte, 192.137 mph, 28.105 sec., 3/31/00).

* Elliott also holds the current qualifying records at Daytona (1987) and Talladega (1987).

ELLIOTT RETURNS TO ACTION

* Elliott will make his 740th career start at California Speedway. He has 44 career wins, 55 career poles, 175 top fives and 320 top 10s.

* Elliott is scheduled to run four races this season in the No. 91 Stanley Tools Dodge Charger -- California (A), Texas (A), Charlotte (A) and Indianapolis.

* Elliott will run selected other races for Evernham Motorsports in Dodge Chargers throughout the season.
