Event: NASCAR Nextel Cup Series Samsung 500 (Race No. 7 of 36)
Worth, Texas
Weather: Sunny and warm
Winner: Jeff Burton, driver of the #31 Chevrolet from Richard Childress Racing
Top-Five Finishers: Burton, Matt Kenseth, Mark Martin, Jeff Gordon and Jamie McMurray
Race Recap: Jeff Burton led just one lap in Sunday's Nextel Cup Series race at Texas Motor Speedway, and it was for the checkered flag and first victory of the 2007 season. It also was his sixth top-six finish in seven races this season and his 19th career win in the series.
After the field was set by owner points because severe storms forced qualifying to be canceled on Friday, series points leader Jeff Gordon began the race from the pole. Gordon was the race's dominant driver, leading 173 of 334 laps. However, he scraped the wall with 21 laps remaining in the race and faded to a fourth-place finish. Because the race's other key driver, Dale Earnhardt, Jr., also was an accident victim, the finish was set up between Burton and Matt Kenseth. Burton tried to pass Kenseth several times during the waning laps, finally getting by on the final lap to become the first repeat winner at the track. The margin of victory was 0.410 seconds.
Burton averaged a speed of 143.359 mph. There were seven cautions for 28 laps and 13 lead changes among nine drivers.
Burton trails overall series leader Gordon by eight points, followed by Kenseth, Jimmie Johnson and Denny Hamlin.
Goodyear Quote - Phil Holmer: "Everything went well at Texas this past weekend. We brought our 'regular' intermediate left-side tire code with the right-side code we've run at Chicago and Homestead in the past, and this setup was great. Overall, this was one of the smoothest race weekends I've ever seen at Texas Motor Speedway."

Companion Event: Matt Kenseth overcame a cut tire early in the race to come back and win the NASCAR Busch Series race at Texas on Saturday. Kenseth led just once on the day, which covered the race's final nine laps. Denny Hamlin finished second followed by series leader Carl Edwards, who is now in front of Dave Blaney by a whopping 403 championship points after just eight of 35 events.
