33 DOWN, 3 TO GO
The latest on the Red Bull Toyotas entering Sunday's race at Texas.

82. SCOTT SPEED

GOOD DAY GOES DOWN THE DRAIN I: Speed entered Talladega with two top-15 finishes there and seemed well on his way to backing that up. He moved from his 29th-place starting position to 10th by lap 58 and later opted to play it safe toward the back to avoid "the tornado." Speed began making his move inside 30 laps to go, climbing as high as 11th before getting caught up in a multi-car accident on the final lap. He finished 29th, but made the second-most green-flag passes with 463.

YOU'RE ALL CLEAR, KID: Speed owns back-to-back top-20 finishes at Texas. The first, an 18th-place finish in November 2009, came by way of fuel mileage. The second, a 16th-place finish in April, was earned with incredibly skilled work at the wheel. On lap 318, all hell broke loose on the frontstretch as nine cars collided in the dogleg and spun through the grass into turn one. With the track almost completely blocked an oncoming Speed quickly slowed down, and with the help of spotter Tim Fedewa picked a lane, drove through it and narrowly — we mean narrowly — avoided two cars drifting down the banking. All clear to his best Texas finish in three starts.

VITAL SIGNS: Ranks 29th in the driver standings — three points behind 28th-place Sam Hornish Jr. and 38 behind 27th-place Elliott Sadler.

83 . KASEY KAHNE

GOOD DAY GOES DOWN THE DRAIN II: After starting 16th at Talladega, Kahne, in only his 11th day with Red Bull Racing Team, roared into the lead by lap five and led twice for three laps. He had the 10th- highest average running position (13.8) and spent more than half the race in the top 15. Kahne was part of 87 lead changes, too — the second most in NASCAR history. But like his teammate, Kahne was involved in a last-lap crash. He finished 26th.

LONE STAR LOVE AFFAIR: Kahne has taken quite a liking to Texas since he debuted there April 4, 2004. That day, he started third and finished second after leading 148 laps. In the 11 starts since, he has a pole and victory (April 2006), two top fives, five top 20s and 65 laps led. He's also turned the eight- most (153) fastest laps in that span.

VITAL SIGNS: The No. 83 ranks 26th in the car owner standings — 110 points behind the No. 12 in 25th and 116 behind the No. 6 in 24th. Kahne sits 22nd in the driver standings.
