This Week's Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet at Texas Motor Speedway ... Kevin Harvick will pilot Chassis No. 301 from the Richard Childress Racing NASCAR Sprint Cup Series stable. This Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet is a brand new car that was tested at Charlotte Motor Speedway in March.
Career Texas Stats ... The Samsung Mobile 500 marks Harvick's 330th career start in the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series.
* In 14 Sprint Cup Series starts at the 1.5-mile oval, Harvick owns three top-five and six top-10 finishes.
* He has completed 99.7 percent (4,674 of 4,686) of the total laps contested.
* He owns an average finish of 13.3, sixth best for Harvick of all tracks on the NSCS circuit.
* In 11 Nationwide Series starts at TMS, Harvick owns four wins, four top-five and eight top-10 finishes. All four of Harvick's wins came in RCR-prepared Chevrolets.
Loopy in Texas ... The No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil driver is the series' fifth-best closer at the 1.5-mile oval. Over the last 10 TMS races, he has improved 17 positions in the last 10 percent of laps in each race. Additionally Harvick ranks fifth among all competitors in green-flag passes. The Bakersfield, Calif., native has completed 595 passes at Texas.
Double Duty in Texas ... In addition to his driving duties with the No. 29 Shell-Pennzoil Chevrolet, Harvick will race Kevin Harvick Incorporated's No. 33 Chevrolet in the April 17th O'Reilly 300 Nationwide Series event. The event will air live on ESPN2 beginning at 3 p.m. Eastern Daylight Time, and will also be broadcast live on the Performance Racing Network and Sirius XM Satellite Radio.
Phoenix Recap ... Last week in Phoenix, Harvick finished 13th and scored his sixth top-15 finish in the season's first seven races. Harvick maintained his fourth-place slot in the championship standings.
KEVIN HARVICK QUOTES:
Last year in the fall race at Texas, you started 24th and finished fifth. Does that bode well for a good run this weekend?
"I certainly hope so, and I believe so. Our car was good from the time we unloaded last fall. We didn't qualify that well, but for the most part that race was really good for us. We were able to be really consistent all day. That track has become a lot like Atlanta, with the way that the cars slide around. I like those types of race tracks where you slide around and have to use a lot of throttle control."
Does the bump in turn one really affect how the car handles at Texas?
"Not really. Texas has become a place where you can move all around the race track. The bump gets worse as you go up the race track, but it really doesn't affect you very much on the bottom. I think the toughest part is getting off the corner and finding that balance where your car isn't too loose. Your car has to turn enough across the center of the corner so you can stay in the throttle on exit to make good time."
Texas typically has some of the largest crowds on the NASCAR circuit. Does that add more excitement for you as a driver?
"It's a great place for us because Shell is located in Houston. Some of our most loyal fans are in the Texas area, and the track does a great job promoting the event. We really enjoy it and always look forward to racing in Texas."
