A Lap Around Martinsville With Johnny Benson

JOHNNY BENSON -26- Cheerios Ford Taurus --"If the car is good you can come down in the corners pretty smooth and not have to use a ton of brake. The biggest key is to get through the center and have enough forward bite to come off the corner where you can get to the pedal and leave it there and still are able to make the car turn. That's the perfect racecar, but that's almost the case at every racetrack. But for there you have to be able to get in there good, not use a ton of brakes, and still coast through that center awful good. Like I say, be able to get on that gas pedal and be able to leave it there and not either push out or get so loose you can't drive."

ARE ONE AND TWO THE SAME AS THREE AND FOUR? "I think both ends are pretty equal. Some tracks have one end way different than the other end, but I don't think Martinsville is one of those tracks. You've gotta drive both ends pretty similar. Other than the bumps being in a little bit different areas, other than that, I think both ends of the race track are pretty comparable to each other."

WHAT ABOUT THE INFAMOUS CURB ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRACK? "We've all hit it. I haven't had it damage the car yet, but we've all hit it. Actually, if your car is good, that's what you want to do. You want to be able to rub on it a little bit coming off the corner. If you can get right on there and just rub it a little bit without upsetting the car and be fast up off the corner, you've got a good car."
