TOYOTA TIDBITS -- August 17 - 23, 2009

Here Are the Headlines:
Victory for Vickers
Chasing Spot In 'Chase'
Busch Back at Bristol
Kyle Maintains Nationwide Points Lead
Tundras Ready for Mid-Week Thunder

VICTORY FOR VICKERS: Brian Vickers gave the Red Bull Racing Team its maiden NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) victory Sunday at Michigan International Speedway. It was Vickers' first NSCS victory driving a Toyota, and the second win of his Cup career (Talladega, Oct. 2006). The 25-year-old Thomasville, N.C.-native started on the pole (his sixth of the season) in the No. 83 Red Bull Camry and led three times for 12 laps (of 200) around the two-mile Michigan oval. It was the seventh NSCS win of the season for Toyota and the 17th victory since joining the series in 2007.

'CHASING' THE TOP-12: The Michigan victory catapulted Vickers into 13th-place in the NSCS driver point standings -- just 12 points out of 12th-place with three races remaining before the 'Chase for the Sprint Cup' championship playoff begins. Toyota drivers Kyle Busch (15th, 70 points from 12th-place) and David Reutimann (16th, 118 points from 12th-place) are also vying for spots in the 12-driver 'Chase' field. Camry driver Denny Hamlin is currently fifth in NSCS point standings.

BUSCH BACK AT BRISTOL: Busch heads into this week's races at Bristol Motor Speedway as the defending race-winner in two different series. In the NSCS trip to the half-mile Tennessee oval in March, Busch led 378 of 503 laps and outlasted Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate Hamlin in a 'green-white-checkered' finish for the victory. Busch is also the defending race-winner in the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) at Bristol, where he led 145 of 203 laps last August en route to victory lane.

NATIONWIDE NUMBERS: Vickers and Busch combined to lead 110 of 125 laps in Saturday's NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) race at Michigan. The two battled for the lead down to the final lap, when their side-by-side racing allowed Brad Keselowski by for the win, leaving Vickers in second and Busch third. Busch maintains the lead in the NNS driver standings after 23 of 35 races. TUNDRAS RETURN TO THE TRACK: Toyota Tundra drivers return to the track after a two-week break for Wednesday night's 200-lap NCWTS race at Bristol. Toyota has won three of the last four Truck events at Bristol, including Busch (2008), Johnny Benson (2007) and Mike Skinner (2005). With 11 races remaining on the 2009 schedule, five Tundra drivers are in the top-10 in points -- Skinner (third), Todd Bodine (fourth), Brian Scott (fifth), David Starr (sixth) and Tayler Malsam (seventh).
