TOYOTA TIDBITS -- September 21 - 27, 2009
Here Are the Headlines:
Runner-Up Run for Hamlin in New Hampshire
Denny and Brian Keep Pace in Chase
Busch's Sweep Status at Six
Tundras Make History in Loudon

NEW HAMPSHIRE RACE REWIND: Denny Hamlin (second) was the highest-finishing Toyota driver in Sunday's NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) race at New Hampshire Motor Speedway -- the first event in the 10-race Chase playoff to determine the 2009 series champion. Hamlin led twice for 22 (of 300) laps around the one-mile oval in his Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 11 FedEx Camry. Kyle Busch finished fifth, while Camry drivers Brian Vickers (11th), David Reutimann (12th) and Marcos Ambrose (20th) also had top-20 results at New Hampshire.

CHARTING THE CHASE: Competing in his fourth consecutive Chase, Hamlin matched his best career finish in a Chase event with a runner-up result at New Hampshire. (He also finished second at Martinsville in his 2006 rookie campaign.) The second-place finish enabled Hamlin to move up to third-place in the Chase standings and he now trails leader Mark Martin by 35 points with nine races remaining in the season. Vickers, competing in the Chase for the first time in his career, sits eighth in the standings following New Hampshire, 90 points out of the lead.

BUSCH THE ONE TO BEAT: Camry driver Busch continues to hold onto first-place in the NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) standings with eight races remaining in the 2009 season. He sits 201 points ahead of second-place Carl Edwards heading into Saturday's race at Dover -- where Busch is the defending race winner from 2008. Toyota drivers Jason Leffler (fourth), Michael Annett (11th) and Joey Logano (14th) are also among the top-15 in the series point standings after 27 of 35 races.

KYLE TAKES TUNDRA TRIUMPH: Busch won his fifth NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race of the season -- and third in his last three series starts -- Saturday at New Hampshire. The 24-year-old Las Vegas-native led four times for 75 (of 200) laps en route to victory lane. Stacy Compton (sixth), Brian Scott (seventh) and Mike Skinner (eighth) also finished in the top-10.

TRACK SWEEPER: After adding a Truck Series victory to his resume in Loudon, Busch has now won at least one race in all three NASCAR national series at six different race tracks. In addition to New Hampshire, Busch has won in the NSCS, NNS and NCWTS at Bristol, California, Chicagoland, Dover and Phoenix.

TUNDRA TIMES FIVE: Busch's win at New Hampshire was the fifth straight NCWTS win for Toyota -- the first time since joining the series in 2004 that a Tundra has been to victory lane in five consecutive series races. The five straight wins include Busch's victories at Bristol (Aug. 19), Chicagoland (Aug. 27) and New Hampshire, as well as a pair of wins by Mike Skinner at Iowa (Sept. 5) and Gateway (Sept. 12). This year, Tundra drivers have combined for 11 wins, 49 top-five and 102 top-10 finishes.

HYBRID PACER: This weekend, a Toyota Camry Hybrid will serve as the ‘official' pace car for both NASCAR races at Dover International Speedway. It marks the second time the Camry Hybrid has served in this capacity at the track. In addition to Dover, the Camry Hybrid has served as the ‘official' pace car at Charlotte, New Hampshire, Sonoma, Chicagoland and Watkins Glen.
