RAIN-DELAYED RACE RECAP: Denny Hamlin recorded Toyota's first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series (NSCS) victory of the 2010 season Monday at Martinsville Speedway. The Chesterfield, Va., native led six times for 172 (of 508) laps in the Joe Gibbs Racing No. 11 FedEx Freight Camry, passing three cars during a 'green-white-checkered' finish to register his third-career win at the half-mile Virginia oval. Camry drivers Joey Logano (second), Brian Vickers (fifth) and Martin Truex Jr. (sixth) also had top-10 runs.
HALF TOP-10S ARE TUNDRAS: Five Tundra drivers scored top-10 finishes in Saturday's NASCAR Camping World Truck Series (NCWTS) race at Martinsville Speedway. Brian Ickler matched his career best finish with a third-place result after starting 32nd in the Kyle Busch Motorsports (KBM) No. 18 Tundra. Other Tundra drivers finishing in the top-10 included Timothy Peters (fourth), Johnny Benson (fifth), Aric Almirola (sixth) and Max Papis (eighth).
GOT GIBSON GUITARS: A year ago, Camry drivers took home the coveted Gibson guitar first-place trophy at both NASCAR Nationwide Series (NNS) races at Nashville Superspeedway. Joey Logano started on the outside of row one in the spring and led 95 (of 225) laps en route to his first Nashville win. Logano's Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) teammate, Kyle Busch, earned his first Gibson guitar at the 1.33-mile concrete oval in 'smashing' fashion when he led 173 (of 225) laps after starting from the pole in the June race.
WHAT OFF-WEEKEND?: NSCS regulars Busch and Logano could spend their rare NSCS off-weekend relaxing at home -- instead they will be among the NNS drivers at Nashville Superspeedway. Busch will pilot the Joe Gibbs Racing (JGR) No. 18 Camry and Logano will drive the JGR No. 20 Camry. Busch will also compete in Friday night's NCWTS race at Nashville.
BRAUN RAISING AWARENESS: Autism Speaks, the nation's largest autism science and advocacy organization, and Goodlettsville, Tenn.-based, Dollar General, have partnered together to increase awareness of autism and raise funds for autism research and advocacy during April's Autism Awareness Month. The Autism Speaks puzzle piece logo will appear on the Dollar General No. 32 Camry throughout April. Autism has personally affected the Braun Racing family as the two-year-old son of crew chief Trent Owens was diagnosed with autism last year.
TRIO OF TUNDRA TRIUMPHS: Tundra drivers have earned three wins at Nashville Superspeedway -- two for Benson (2008 and 2006) and one for David Reutimann (2005). In addition, in four of the last five years a Tundra driver has captured the pole at the 1.33-mile concrete race track -- Peters (2009), Todd Bodine (2008) and Mike Skinner (2007 and 2005). CAST YOUR VOTES: The top-10 finalists for the Toyota 'Sponsafier' contest will be posted on ToyotaRacing.com for the final round of voting to begin April 1. Race fans can log on and vote for their favorite design where the winning paint scheme will lead the field to the green flag in the 2010 NASCAR Sprint All-Star race at Charlotte Motor Speedway, May 22.
CELEBRITIES RACE FOR CHARITY: An eclectic group of stars from film, television, music and sports will put their freshly honed racing skills to the test all in the name of charity on Saturday, April 17, in the Toyota Pro/Celebrity Race, part of the 36th annual Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The field of 19 drivers will compete in brand new, race-ready Scion tCs in a 10-lap race for charity on the 1.97-mile road course through the streets of downtown Long Beach, Calif. Among the celebrities taking part in the event are Adrien Brody, Brian Austin Green, Tony Hawk, Zachary Levi, Megyn Price, Christian Slater, Patrick Warburton and defending race-winner, Keanu Reeves.
