Trans-Am drivers double duty at Sears Point

SONOMA, Calif. -- Defending Trans-Am Series for the BFGoodrich® Tires Cup champion Boris Said will join fellow Trans-Am Series drivers Scott Pruett and Johnny Miller, doing multiple driving duties over the weekend at Infineon Raceway. Said, driver of the No. 33 ACS Express Racing/GE Access/Sun Microsystems Ford Mustang in the Trans-Am Series, is racing in all three scheduled major events--Saturday's NASCAR Featherlite Tour event; and the Winston Cup Series and Trans-Am Series events on Sunday.

"I have run multiple series before and I've done well," said Said, who finished second in the Trans-Am season opener in St. Petersburg, and won Round 2 at Long Beach. "The real challenge for this weekend will be changing from car to car for every hot session on the track. Each of the cars is very different--just like dating three different girls. They all have special needs and you have to be responsive to each.

"This is the kind of weekend I like," added Said. "I won't get bored."

Miller, driver of Rocketsports Racing's No. 64 Eaton Cutler-Hammer Jaguar XKR, will make his Winston Cup debut Sunday, driving for Morgan-McClure Motorsports. Miller will pilot the No. 4 Kodak Pontiac Grand Prix Sunday, prior to the Trans-Am Series race.

"This is just great opportunity," said Miller, who has finished on the podium in all four races this season and won Round 4 at Lime Rock Park. "I'm excited about making my Winston Cup debut at Infineon Raceway. I am privileged to drive for teams like Rocketsports Racing and Morgan-McClure Motorsports. "You always go out there to win," added Miller, who currently leads the Trans-Am Series championship by two points, ahead of Pruett. "Moreover, though, I'm looking for a good finish in the Winston Cup race, and to hold my lead in the Trans-Am Series points.

"I'm looking for my first Trans-Am Series championship this season," added Miller. "But it's also going to be great to do double duty this weekend."

Pruett, who drives the No. 7 Jaguar R Performance XKR, will compete for the Target Chip Ganassi Racing with Felix Sabates team in the Winston Cup Series event. Pruett won the Trans-Am Series race here in 1987, one of his two championship seasons.

"When Chip Ganassi gave me this opportunity, I just had to jump on it," said Pruett, who returns to the Trans-Am Series this season after full-time stints in the Winston Cup Series and Champ Car World Series. "Obviously the Trans-Am Series is my focus; we're here to win our third Drivers' Championship.

"I can't wait to get out there on Sunday," added Pruett. "This is going to be great."

Several former Trans-Am Series drivers will also compete over the weekend. 2000 Trans-Am Series Drivers' Champion Brian Simo will be standing by as a relief driver for Bill Elliott on Sunday. Elliot broke his left foot in a crash earlier this season. Trans-Am Series journeyman Ron Fellows and part time Trans-Am Series competitor Paul Menard will also run in the Winston Cup Series race.

The Trans-Am 100, part of Infineon Raceway's NASCAR weekend, is scheduled to start at 4:30 p.m. on Sunday, June 22, following the Winston Cup Series race. The race will air, on tape-delayed basis, on the SPEED Channel, on Friday, June 27.
