Truex, who led Thursday’s practice session and qualified third for Saturday night’s Duck Commander 500, posted the fastest average lap speed in Friday evening’s practice session (192.390 mph).

“I didn't see any negatives in that at all Cole, I thought that was good,” Truex said to his crew chief, Cole Pearn over the radio as practice concluded.

Texas was one of Truex’s most consistent tracks last season. He finished ninth in the spring race and eighth in the fall.

After his qualifying run, Truex said he felt “good” about his chances at a victory on Saturday night.

“We missed it a little bit from yesterday, I thought we were really good yesterday and the track was a little faster today and moved on us a little bit,” Truex said. “I felt like we had a shot at the pole.”

Carl Edwards, who will start from the pole Saturday night, had the second-fastest lap, followed by Kyle Busch, A.J. Allmendinger and Joey Logano.

Late in the one hour, 20-minute session, Busch’s No. 18 Toyota got real loose exiting Turn 2 but Busch managed to keep it off the wall and suffered no damage.

Austin Dillon, who starts 10th on Saturday night, posted the fastest 10-lap average speed. He was followed by Kasey Kahne, Brad Keselowski, Kevin Harvick and Truex in that category.
