USAR: Wood clones look at Hickory

STUART, Va. ? Jon Wood has proven he knows how to overcome adversity. Wood worked hard to have the car to beat last weekend. He worked his way into the --- position before a lapped car slammed into Wood, damaging the front left fender of his car. Wood restarted at the tail end of the field but worked his way back up to 7th before the checker flag dropped, which moved him to 7th in the championship standings.

This weekend Wood brings a new look to his No. 116 Ford Taurus. Motorcraft Quality Parts will be Wood's primary sponsor for the remainder of the 2000 season. The newly designed Taurus gives race fans a look of what's to come with Jon's Winston Cup affiliation, the Wood Brothers owned No. 21 Ford.

"I'm excited they are coming on as the sponsor for the rest of the season," stated Wood. "When we held the press conference last week I had a chance to drive the Motorcraft Quality Parts Taurus in a ride along program at Concord Motorsports Park. I had a great time riding the media around and I even gave my Dad and Grandfather a ride."

Wood describes the D-shaped Hickory Motor Speedway as unique track that requires patience.

"We'll see cars with their nose and tail knocked off before the night is over," stated Wood. "It is a beat and bang kind of track. Last time we ran at Hickory we had a shot at winning but we pitted too early. I ended up 7th and I hope we have a shot at redeeming ourselves this weekend. We've had a solid season but I'd really like to win a race and rookie of the year. Brian (Vickers) and I are best of friends off the track but I want him to finish 2nd in the rookie race.

"We have a couple of things on our side this weekend. We ran well last weekend despite having an injured car and I believe our test with Morgan Shepherd paid off. This weekend should be a good one because we are going all out for the rest of the season."

Jon Wood and his Motorcraft Quality Parts Taurus will compete at Hickory Motor Speedway on October 14, 2000. The race is scheduled to begin at 8:00 p.m.
