Watkins Glen NY (July 18, 2000) - Watkins Glen International will be giving fans a sneak preview of the Global Crossing @ The Glen during a NASCAR Winston Cup test session on Monday, July 24 for more than 10 top Winston Cup teams. Some of the incredibly talented drivers scheduled to participate include Mark Martin, Dale Earnhardt, Bill Elliott, and Ricky Rudd.
Martin will be trying to break Jeff Gordon's current streak of three Watkins Glen road course victories in a row and his overall NASCAR Winston Cup Series streak of road course victories at six.
"Jeff is a smart driver. He gave us a driving lesson. I had hopes of staying out in front of him, but I couldn't," Martin commented after last year's Frontier @ The Glen. In the early part of the nineties, he won three in a row on the historic road course. Earlier this year at Martinsville, Martin took home the checkers in convincing fashion and he expects his team to be just as competitive at The Glen.
"Everywhere we go is another chance to score another victory. We have a great race team, and the guys are doing a really nice job."
Jeff Burton, Bill Elliott, Tony Stewart, Ward Burton, Ron Fellows, Chad Little, Kevin LePage, Matt Kenseth, and Jerry Nadeau will be making practice laps at Watkins Glen International along with Martin, Earnhardt, Elliott, and Rudd.
Monday's test session is open and fans that have purchased Global Crossing @ The Glen tickets will be admitted free of charge. Visiting fans should present their tickets at the gate to receive free admission or pick up a voucher at the ticket office if they have not received their event tickets yet. All other spectators can take in the action for only $10.00 at the gate and children 12 and under will be admitted free with an adult. Gate 4 will be open from 10:00a.m. - 4:00p.m. on Monday and Tuesday. Fans are strongly encouraged to attend Monday's test session as several teams may leave early Tuesday afternoon.
Tickets for the Global Crossing @ The Glen are still available. For ticket, reserved camping, or additional information, contact the Watkins Glen ticket office at 607-535-2481 or log on to the official Watkins Glen web site at www.theglen.com.
