*MELLING RACING SIGNS SPONSOR*
Melling Racing Enterprises, The Walt Disney Company, and BSB Productions have entered into a unique two-race sponsorship agreement. The Ford Thunderbird driven by Lake Speed will be filmed with the intent of producing a two-hour television pilot entitled "Steel Chariots".
The #9 Winston Cup entry will carry Ace Hardware company logos for this weekend's Interstate Batteries 500 at Texas Motor Speedway as well as the Winston 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on April 27.
Disney film crews will shoot footage of practice sessions, pit stops, and special footage of both race weekends. Similar filming will also be done in Melling's home base of Charlotte, NC. "We're excited to be involved with his project," said Mark Melling, Vice President of Melling Racing Enterprises. "It provides a unique potential long-term sponsorship opportunity for companies looking to sponsor the #9 car for the remainder of the season. We are now positioned to sell sponsors involvement with a car that is likely to be a major part of a weekly television series."
*VALVOLINE EXTENDS SPONSORSHIP WITH ROUSH RACING*
The Valvoline Company today announced that they have extended their contract with Roush Racing and Mark Martin through the end of the century. The real winner in this contract extension though will be one lucky fan who will win a real, ready-to-race, Roush Racing Thunderbird painted in Valvoline colors.
"I'd never want to give a Roush car to one of my competitors on the circuit, but turning over the keys to one of my fans will be a big thrill," said Martin on the promotion. "The thought of seeing one of my Thunderbirds in the driveway of a Valvoline customer is pretty wild."
The Valvoline Ford that is being given away is valued at an estimated $110,000 dollars. Contest entry is through a mail-in-rebate offer on specially marked boxes and containers of Valvoline oils and the contest will run through June 25th.
