Borja Garcia made it a weekend to remember in front of his family and friends at his home track at the Circuit Ricardo Tormo. Garcia passed Frederic Gabillon on Lap 4 and scored his second consecutive NASCAR Whelen Euro Series win and third overall Sunday in Valencia, Spain.

“It’s unbelievable, what a fantastic race weekend,” said Garcia. “We were fast in practice and sat on the pole yesterday and won the season opener. Today we had another great start and another win!  It's amazing, especially here at my home track for the first two races of the championship in front of my family, my friends and my fans.  It's so unbelievable!”

Garcia was happy that he’s been able to get his team owner – Alex Caffi Motorsports – a pair of wins and the lead in the standings after the first weekend of the season.

“I never dreamed that a weekend like this could happen,” said Garcia. “We are really looking forward to the rest of the season. Alex Caffi Motorsports is a great team and I think we have a lot more wins ahead of us there. I’m hopeful these wins will attract additional sponsorship and companies to partner with us this year."

Gabillon followed Garcia in second after he was passed early in the race closely but never came within striking distance and had to settle for second for the fourth time in the last five Valencia races, just .552 seconds behind Garcia.

Alon Day came home solid third while reigning champion Anthony Kumpen came from of the field to finish fourth.

“We had a really good race today,” said Gabillon after his runner-up finish. “After yesterday’s finish, we’re really happy for second place.  The car was very fast but we couldn’t get close enough to Borja to pressure him. We’re going to work on the car to try and get a bit more speed. We had a solid finish here today and I’m now going to focus on the rest of the season.”

Christophe Bouchut backed up Saturday’s second-place showing with another top-five edging Salvador Tineo Arroyo, won the Junior Trophy with his sixth-place finish.

Thomas Ferrando was seventh and Rodolfo Gonzalez came home eighth for his first NASCAR top-10 finish. Freddy Nordstrom and Wilfried Boucenna completed the top-10.

The Challenger Trophy went to Patrick Simon (#70 Mishumotors Chevrolet SS) for the second time thanks to his 11th place overall.

After finishing second in Saturday’s season-opening race, Stienes Longin got together with Gonzalez, in Turn five at the beginning of the race and came to a stop in the gravel and was forced to retire from the race.

In the ELITE 2 division race held earlier in the day, Frenchman Ulysse Delsaux scored an emotional win after dominating the race for his first NWES victory.

Thomas Ferrando, who won Saturday’s ELITE 2 season-opener, followed in second while Maciej Dreszer, Guillaume Dumarey, and Eric De Doncker completed the top five.

Ferrando leads Delsaux by one point after the first weekend of racing. The NASCAR Whelen Euro Series will head next to Brands Hatch, United Kingdon on June 10-11 for the fifth edition of the American Speedfest.
