THE STORY: Fresh off the team's first top-five outing of the year last weekend, Steve Wallace, David Stremme and Team Atreus Rusty Wallace Racing roll into the hometown of primary sponsor Atreus Homes & Communities this weekend, hoping to build momentum in their quest for the 2008 Nationwide Series drivers' and owner's crowns. That quest got a large boost earlier this week, when the National Stock Car Racing Commission, in a rare appeal decision, rescinded the points penalty and fine issued to the No. 64 entry following the Daytona round of the championship.
THE MACHINES: Steve Wallace's steed for this weekend's event is RWI-031. The "31 car" served as the team's backup for the California and Las Vegas events. As a new car, it has not yet seen race action. Wallace's backup car is RWI-033, a former DEI car wheeled by Paul Menard. David Stremme's ride for the weekend is RWI-026; a new car for 2008. Stremme's backup car is RWI-024, the intermediate track workhorse for Steve Wallace in the last half of the 2007 season.
STEVE WALLACE, DRIVER, NO. 66 ATREUS HOMES & COMMUNITIES CHEVROLET: "I'm really looking forward to this weekend. We've had really solid runs the past two races, but just didn't get the results last weekend to show it. It's always fun to race in Atlanta; it's the hometown of our sponsor Atreus, so there will be a lot of people out at the racetrack to support us this weekend. As far as the race itself, it should be really interesting to see how things play out with the new tapered spacer in place. You barely lifted off the throttle here before, so now, it should almost be like running a restrictor plate race at Daytona or Talladega. It should be a really interesting race for the fans to watch and we're planning on being the team to watch down there too."
DAVID STREMME, DRIVER, NO. 64 ATREUS HOMES & COMMUNITIES CHEVROLET: "I'm really excited about running down in Atlanta this weekend; there are going to be a lot of people from Atreus at the track, so we're looking forward to putting on a good show for them. I feel like our team's communication is getting better and better every week and we were able to show that a little bit at Las Vegas. Trust me, 5th isn't enough for us, though. We've got a team that I feel is capable of winning races and that's exactly what we plan to do this year. Winning this weekend at Atlanta would be a great place to start."
