Beating Around the Busch: Chapter Fourteen, Kentucky Superspeedway
By: Thomas Chemris

Hendrick Motorsports driver Kyle Busch, fresh off his stellar performance at Charlotte will spend his off time competing in the summer Legends Car league at the Lowes Motor Speedway. Busch will next compete in the Busch series in August at Indianapolis Raceway Park.

Televisions ratings for the Busch series are up over eight percent from 2002. The average viewer ship for the racing series is 3,717,000.

Kentucky marked a homecoming for former series champion David Green. Green started third, and finished eighth in front of the home state crowd. His position was enough to re-claim the series championship points lead.

"I'm very pumped in returning to our 'home track' with my new team which has done an excellent job in putting me up front all year. I feel like we have home track advantage each race we run but especially Kentucky since my team is based within the state and right up the road." Noted Green.

In helping to promote the upcoming race at the Milwaukee Mile, sophomore driver Johnny Sauter tossed out the first pitch at a recent game between the Milwaukee Brewers and the Florida Marlins.

"I've always dreamed about being a professional baseball player, and I've always loved to watch the Brewers. It'll be a great chance for me to see how those guys go about their jobs," said Sauter.

NBC Sports analyst Wally Dallenbach returned to active driving, taking the Reiser Enterprises Aleve Ford from twenty-second to twelfth position.

"We wanted to get one under our belt, and we have five more, so this was a good test. I hadn't been a racecar in eight months, so it was good for me to get back in a car; it was good for me to work with them. Now they know what I like," noted Dallenbach who is putting together a five-race deal that may involve broadcasting from the car.

So much for denials, prior to Nashville, Roush Racing President Geoff Smith denied rumors that Stanton Barrett would be pulled from the number 60 entry. Despite the vote of confidence, Barrett and the entire sixty team have been indefinitely suspended citing sponsorship problems. Technically, there is a difference between releasing a driver, and suspending a teams operation, but Smith's statement speaks for itself. "While we hope that we can keep him in our stable of great drivers, we have nowhere to place him. Contractually, he is a "free agent" and he definitely deserves a chance for a full-time ride with a top team", said Smith.

Jeff Burton will return to the Busch series at the New Hampshire International Speedway. The ride is currently seeking sponsorship, but is confirmed to run the Magic Mile in July.

"It's a great series with a lot of really good drivers, and Jack always gives us everything we need to win. I can't tell you how much I'm hoping that we're able to run some more races in 2003 and 2004." Comments Burton.

Mike McLaughlin and Casey Atwood are scheduled to test in Daytona to prepare for July's Winn Dixie 250 at the famed 2.5-mile facility.
