BRISTOL, Tenn. (Aug. 29) -- After two long rain delays, 12 cautions and a green-white-checkered finish, REESE'S Racing driver Kevin Harvick finished third in Friday night's Food City 250 at Bristol Motor Speedway. It was Harvick's eighth top-five finish in just 12 starts at Bristol.

"The REESE'S Chevy was really good," Harvick said. "All the cautions at the end of the race didn't help us much. We would have given Ryan Newman a run for the money if we could have kept the green flag out longer than five laps at a time."

Harvick started the Food City 250 in the 20th spot. When the green flag flew over Bristol Motor Speedway to start the race, Harvick was on the move through the field, and by lap 50 he had cracked the top 10.

On lap 61 of 252, the third caution flag of the day waved over Bristol Motor Speedway. Harvick brought the REESE'S Chevy to pit road for the first and only time of the race. The REESE'S team made small adjustments to help with a loose-handling race car, changed four tires and filled the No. 21 with fuel. Harvick returned to the track in the 15th spot because several cars did not pit.

Harvick inherited the fourth spot under caution when the cars in front of him had to make scheduled pit stops on lap 139 of 252. He was still there when the second rain stoppage of the night was called.

"Happy" Harvick took over the third spot with 30 laps to go when Kasey Kahne spun out. With Kahne no longer a factor, Harvick said he felt like he had the fastest car on the track, and he began working on fellow Nextel Cup star Greg Biffle for the second spot.

With 17 laps remaining, Biffle and Harvick began a run on leader Ryan Newman. However, Newman was saved by a spin by Carl Edwards that invoked the 11th caution period. The race resumed with 11 laps to go, and once again a charge by Harvick was stopped short because a caution flag was waved with five laps remaining. It set up a two-lap sprint to the finish under the green-white-checkered flag finish. Newman would get a good jump on the restart, and Harvick was unable to make a run on either Biffle or Newman. Harvick crossed the stripe third.

The REESE'S Racing team remains fourth in team standings, 363 points from the top spot.

Clint Bowyer, Harvick's teammate, finished fourth and remains cemented in second place in the driver standings. Johnny Sauter crossed the stripe fifth.

Harvick will hand over the driving gloves to Brandon Miller for next Saturday's Ameriquest 300 at California Speedway at 4 p.m. EDT. The NBC television network will carry the live television coverage of the race.
