Cox and Stremme Combination Shows Promise Entering Lowe's
Mooresville, NC (May 26, 2004) - With last weekend's fifth-place finish at Nazareth, David Stremme and Team TRIMSPA appear fully transitioned to new crew chief Randy Cox. Switching the crew chief position has inevitably brought a lot of extra work for the shop employees of Braun racing. Last week the team worked 24-hour shifts for two days straight to transition a car over to compete at Nazareth Speedway.
"The wreck at Richmond left us in that position," said Stremme, driver of the TRIMSPA X32 Dodge. "We needed to put in an extra effort to be ready for Nazareth and it paid off. I went through the shop on Monday and made sure to tell everyone how much I appreciated their help."
A tight turnaround time between the race at Nazareth Speedway and this Saturday's race at Lowe's Motor Speedway has required just as much hard work this week as was involved in last week's 24-hour shifts. Adding to the eventful week, TRIMSPA driver Ryan Hemphill will run in Thursday night's ARCA race. Braun Racing is also fielding a second Dodge for driver Chad Blount this weekend with former TRIMSPA X32 Dodge crew chief Todd Lohse calling the shots.
"The guys have really put in some hard work these last few weeks," said Randy Cox. "I think the shop is about 70% switched over to where I need it to be. Our car this weekend is ready. It is the same chassis that we took to California and struggled with. It was terribly tight in the center and loose off, but we should be good this weekend because we have made some geometry changes as well as some body changes."
The Cox and Stremme combination have raised Team TRIMSPA from 20th to 17th in points in their first three races together. Just last weekend the duo posted Team TRIMSPA's first top-five finish since Darlington.
"Randy and I just work well together," said Stremme. "It's evident in our first few races together. Last weekend took some pressure off our backs but there is still a lot of work to do."
Stremme looks to climb higher in the points this weekend when the Busch Series makes its homecoming at Lowe's Motor Speedway for the Carquest Auto Parts 300. The race will be televised live Saturday, May 29th at 12:30 p.m. eastern time on FX and will broadcast nationally at that same time on radio stations affiliated with Motor Racing Network (MRN) and XM Satellite Radio Channel 144.
