RAGAN FINISHES 36th AT CHARLOTTE

Concord, NC (October 16, 2006) - David Ragan took advantage of an off-weekend in the NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series schedule by competing in the NASCAR Busch Series race at Lowe's Motor Speedway on Friday night. Making his first start in the No. 6 Scotts WinterGuard Ford Fusion, Ragan hoped to complete all the laps and bring the car home in one piece. He was on his way to accomplishing that when a wreck involving several cars happened in front of him, leaving Ragan out of the event with only 103 of the 200 scheduled laps completed.

Ragan's weekend was not without incident, as he backed his primary car into the turn two wall on Thursday during rookie practice. Forced to roll out the backup, Ragan and crew approached the rest of the weekend cautiously. Having to qualify for the race on time, Ragan and crew knew they were under pressure to make their way into the race. They responded well, turning in the 10th fastest time of the session.

Caution flags flew early and often at the start of the race, but Ragan managed to avoid trouble. He reported to the crew that he was a little free on entry, but he was happy with the overall handling of his No. 6 Scotts Ford. When the fourth caution of the race came at lap 35, Ragan headed to pit road with the rest of the leaders for tires, fuel and an air pressure adjustment to help overcome his loose condition. Ragan restarted the race in the 30th position as a result of many cars taking either two tires or fuel only. With the field settled down, a long green flag run ensued allowing Ragan to pick up several positions.

By lap 91, Ragan had regained most of his lost ground as he ran in the 15th position. As the leaders slowly came to pit road, a caution came out at lap 95 when the No. 41 cut down a tire. Ragan was able to come to pit road for service under the yellow flag for tires and fuel, exiting pit road in 14th position. Knowing many good cars were trapped a lap down, Ragan and his Scotts crew felt they were in good position to pull off a strong finish. The race restarted at lap 102, and trouble would find Ragan only one lap later.

A wreck, started by Tony Stewart's No. 8 car breaking loose, collected several cars behind him. Unable to navigate through the smoke and debris, Ragan made contact with another car resulting in the radiator being knocked out and heavy sheet metal damage. One look at the car and crew chief Mike Beam knew their day was done, they would have to settle for a 36th place finish.

"Everybody just started stacking up and you really couldn't see anything," said Ragan. "The Scotts WinterGuard Ford Fusion was really good, we felt we had a great chance to get a good finish out of this, but it wasn't to be. It's unfortunate considering how hard everyone worked to get this backup car performing as well as it was. Mike Beam and all the guys put a lot of effort into this weekend's race, and I think we could have had something for them. Nothing we can do about it now, we'll just look forward to getting to Martinsville next weekend."
