NASCAR Busch Series competitors have varied plans for the off week

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 11, 2004) -- So what's a driver to do with some time off? The results are varied for those in the NASCAR Busch Series. David Green (No. 37 Timber Wolf Pontiac) didn't get much time to relax after the event at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, in which he had been involved in a mishap on the last lap.

He and his team headed straight to Texas Motor Speedway for a two-day test. "Of course, we are one car short now, but that's a different matter," Green said.

After the test, Green planned to head home to North Carolina for his son Austin's third birthday party this Saturday. After that, he'll visit Brewco Motorsports' shop in Central City, Ky. on March 15, and then it will be on to Nashville Superspeedway for Media Day on March 17.

"I'm going to spend a little time at home, then go to Kentucky for a few days," Green said. "This is such an important time in the season. We are off to a good start, and I just want to make sure everyone stays pumped up. Not to mention, I get to stay at my grandma's house [in Owensboro, Ky.] and get a little R&R."

It doesn't sound like there'll be much free time for Martin Truex Jr. (No. 8 Bass Pro Shops Chevrolet). He's slated to test at Bristol Motor Speedway during the week, and then he'll be off to an appearance on Sunday in Indianapolis for a motorhome company. After that, Truex will test at Texas.

On the other hand, Ashton Lewis (No. 46 Lewis Motorsports Chevrolet) and his wife, Meredith, will work at the team's shop in Concord, N.C. through Friday. Then, according to Meredith, "I am sure Ashton will lend his moral support from the blue chair in the den as I try to catch up on laundry and clean the house this weekend!"

Paul Menard (No. 33 Menards Chevrolet) is taking a break from hanging drywall and installing appliances at his new condo near the Andy Petree Racing shops in Asheville, N.C. He will head home to Eau Claire, Wis., to "chill out" with friends and family. After this weekend, he'll test at Bristol before heading to the next scheduled NASCAR Busch Series event at Darlington Raceway on March 20.

Tom and Gaye Busch, the parents of Kyle Busch (No. 5 Lowe's Home Improvement Chevrolet), recently moved from Las Vegas to the Charlotte area where the family has purchased land that has two houses on it. Kyle will spend the off weekend helping his parents unpack boxes and get settled into one of the homes on the property, where Tom and Gaye will live while building a third home on the same land. When that home is complete, Tom and Gaye will move into the new structure while Kyle and his brother, Kurt, will take over the other two homes.

Jason Keller (No. 22 Miller High Life Ford) was in Milwaukee earlier this week for a VIP Hard Hat Tour of the Miller Brewing Co. He was on the plant floor with Miller executives and met with plant workers and local distributors. Keller also tested this week at Bristol, where he has one win, three Busch Poles and 10 top-10 finishes. To cap off the busy week, however, Keller planned to spend the weekend at home in South Carolina with wife Deborah, and their two children, Joe and Jade. Joe is about to begin baseball season at school, and Keller planned to drive his tractor out to the school field to resurface it on Saturday.
