BUSCH: David Green on pole at Dover

David Green paced time-trials for the Busch race, posting a lap of 157.916 mph to earn his first pole of the season. It is the 22nd career pole for Green.

"I think what shines today on our effort, was we brought a brand new Monte Carlo here that we did not get to test," said Green. "It was a car that did not see the race track until 9:00 am this morning.

"That to me is the mark of a good team. We just unloaded the car and drove it."

Johnny Sauter posted his best qualifying effort of the season, with a lap of 157.846 mph.

"We've really been struggling," said Sauter. "We finally got a newer style car that we got done, and we brought it here this weekend. We finally got our motor program back on track. We were good right off the truck here.

"It's a far cry better than we have been the last couple of weeks."

In the third starting spot is Jason Leffler with a time of 157.522 mph. The run marks Leffler's eighth consecutive top ten starting spot of the 2004 season.

"We had a great day," said Leffler. "We had a great lap other than bottoming out a few times. I really like coming here, really like this race track. We have a great car for tomorrow and I am really looking forward to it."

Kasey Kahne and Ron Hornaday, Jr. complete the top five. Busch series point leader Kyle Busch, will take the green flag from the 14th position.

Twelve drivers broke the track qualifying record at Dover International Raceway. The previous record was set by Joe Nemechek in 2003 with a lap of 156.747 mph.

Forty-four cars attempted to qualify for the forty-three car field. Failing to make the show was Dion Ciccarelli.
