PayDay Team keeps pace; Harvick claims another top-10 finish

DOVER, Del. (Sept. 20) - PayDay Racing driver Kevin Harvick continued his impressive 2003 Busch Series pace with a ninth-place finish in the Stacker 200 at the Dover (Del.) International Speedway. The finish was Harvick's 13th top-10 in as many Busch Series starts this season. The PayDay team also kept pace in the owner's standings and is now 220 points ahead of the No. 5 team (Brian Vickers).

Harvick led the first 35 of 200 laps, but eventually faded to ninth at the finish. Brian Vickers held off Scott Riggs for his third win of the season.

"We made an educated guess at the race setup, but the car was off all day long," Harvick said after the race. "We went out there and did what we needed to do. We got another top 10, and we've got seven races left towards our goal."

Due to Hurricane Isabel, the field was set according to the team standings. Harvick sat on the pole, with David Green in the outside position. The teams were only allowed a one-hour practice session on Saturday morning before the race. The PayDay team worked extremely hard at making the car better during the practice session. They were successful, finishing the session, fourth on the time sheet.

With the hurricane gone, terrific weather greeted the Busch Series competitors on Saturday. The green flag waved under sunny skies. Harvick was quickly in the lead, which he held through the first 35 circuits of the event. Harvick soon experienced a tight-handling car and was forced to fight for position until lap 89, when he brought the PayDay Chevrolet down pit lane for its first round of service of the day.

The PayDay team quickly gave the car four tires and fuel and made a track bar adjustment. A delay with a spring rubber during the stop cost Harvick a couple of valuable seconds and several positions on the track. Harvick returned to the racing surface in the 21st position. He waited for the remainder of the field to cycle through pit stops before settling into the 12th position.

A lap 165 caution enabled Harvick to visit the pit lane for his final round of service of the day. The crew quickly gave the car four tires, fuel and more chassis adjustments and had Harvick back out on the track. With only seven cars on the lead lap, Harvick returned to the racing surface in 12th, one lap down. He soon began chasing down positions and worked all the way to the ninth spot. That is where his climb ended, as Harvick grabbed another top-10 finish.

Next week the Busch Series gets a rare off-week before traveling to the Kansas Speedway on Oct. 4 for the Mr. Goodcents 300. Johnny Sauter will return behind the wheel of the PayDay Chevrolet, and Harvick will pilot the No. 29 Sonic Chevrolet in the Winston Cup Series event.
