Tim Sauter started 27th and grabbed his second-best career finish, an 8th in the MBNA All-America Heroes 200. Sauter climbed steadily through the field without major incident for the duration of the 200-lap event. The AP Performance Racing Team made only a slight air pressure adjustment to loosen the No. 19 Chevy in route to their sixth Top 10 of 2002. Sauter, who gained the majority of his positions on-track, also benefited from two four-tire stops less each than 16 seconds. The strong finish was a huge encouragement to the AP Performance Racing Team, which recently announced that they would not field a car in 2003 without the help of a sponsor.

TIM SAUTER POST RACE QUOTES:

After the spring Dover race did you envision a top finish here today? "I had no idea what to expect coming into Dover. We were so bad here in the spring, however in our past three runs we have improved at tracks that this rookie team struggled at the first time around. Still the AP Performance Racing Team has had tough luck the past few weeks despite our improved cars. You start to doubt yourself, but we know what we are capable of. This finish is big, it comes at a good time."

What is the most encouraging thing about this finish?"It's not a fluke. We had a great car that hardly got passed all day. It was a little tight, but other than a slight air pressure adjustment it was perfect. We drove all the way to the front, as well as gained spots on pit road. I think if we had some more time we would have been in the Top 5. We earned this finish."

How much did you need a Top 10 here today? "Oh yeah, we haven't gotten a Top 10 since St. Louis. Alec (Pinsonneault), the guys, and I all needed it equally. I feel our program has been headed in the right direction. If we struggle at a track the first time, we learn from it. The past few weeks, our finishes have not done justice to our improvement."
