CHARLOTTE, N.C. (May 28, 2002) -- Much like Yellow guarantees its services, Jimmy Spencer guarantees a few things of his own:

1) Jimmy guarantees he will bring the steering wheel back to the #1 Yellow hauler after every race. Everything else, well, he makes no promises.

2) Good car, bad car, decent car, evil car -- Jimmy guarantees he'll drive the #1 Yellow Chevrolet as hard as the wheels will turn. He'll then tell you about it afterward.

3) Dover beware! Spencer returns as the reigning champion of the MBNA Platinum 200, and of all the things Jimmy never forgets, how to win is one of them.

Unlike the Yellow Racing team's two dominating wins at Richmond last year, the Dover victory required savvy pit work and strategy to send Spencer to the Winner's Circle. Whether that will be the case again for this Saturday's MBNA Platinum 200 at Dover Downs International Speedway (12:30 p.m. on FX) remains to be seen. But Spencer is excited to return to the one-mile oval, and rest assured he'll do everything to keep the MBNA Platinum 200 title in the Team Yellow camp -- guaranteed!

Driver Jimmy Spencer's thoughts --

Returning as race champion. It has a nice ring to it, doesn't it?

"Yeah, it does. But it really doesn't mean a whole lot heading into this weekend. I'd rather hear the nice ring after the race while standing there in Victory Lane. You know, we've been struggling. Last week I messed up at Charlotte and wrecked a good car. This week we've all got to be on top of our games. Dover is one of those tracks where you have to be aware of what's going on around you all the time."

As a veteran NASCAR driver, what does it take to get things turned around?

"You learn early on that there are things that are beyond your control in racing. You've got to just keep your head up and build off what you've learned in previous races. We'll win this year, and then we'll win again. This Yellow Racing team is never satisfied. When we win, it makes us want another one even more."

Let's talk about the win at Dover last year. Was that one of those situations where strategy and smarts almost played a more important part in the win than the car's performance?

"We won on pit strategy. We were running ninth and there was a caution for rain. We decided to pit for four tires and gas, while everyone else stayed out. Their thinking was the race wasn't going to be restarted, but we felt that it would. (Crew chief) Marc Reno said he saw blue sky in the distance, so it was the obvious choice for us. Then everyone else pitted when they realized there would be a restart. We restarted about 10th or so, but all the cars in front of us were on old tires. We took the lead and held on to win. It was a great call by Marc. That decision gave our team an advantage on those guys who had old tires, and it gave us track position on those guys who had new tires and gas to go the rest of the way. We didn't have the best car, but we ended up in the best place."
