Rain Washes Out NASCAR Busch Series Qualifying at Dover; Menard To Start Saturday's MBNA RacePoints 200 From 13th Row
DOVER, Del. (Friday, June 3, 2005) -- Paul Menard of Eau Claire, Wis., and his #11 Menards/Peak Antifreeze Chevrolet of Dale Earnhardt, Inc., will start Saturday's NASCAR Busch Series MBNA RacePoints 400 from the inside of the 13th row after rain washed out all on-track activity today on the Dover International Speedway Monster Mile oval.
Dry weather Thursday enabled Menard and his fellow Busch series competitors to get in both scheduled practice sessions without incident. Today's rains forced NASCAR officials to set the Busch series and Nextel Cup starting grids for this weekend based on the latest owners' points, where the #11 DEI entry sits in 25th. Menard is currently 24th in the series drivers standings after last Saturday night's 12th-place finish from the fifth starting position at Charlotte Motor Speedway. Last fall, Menard qualified 16th and finished 15th in the #11 DEI Chevrolet here at Dover.
Race time for Saturday's 200-lap event is 1:35 p.m. EDT with the FX cable network's live coverage set to begin at 1 p.m. EDT.
PAUL MENARD
"We get to start in lucky row number 13 for the race. Obviously, we'd like to be closer to the front, but I think we can make it work for us because I'm very, very happy with the race car we have after Thursday's practice sessions. With the exception of one qualifying run when we first went green yesterday, we worked exclusively on race setup, and it paid off because we found some things I think will help us a lot on Saturday. I'm feeling good about this race. I've been saying that a lot, lately. Let's hope the Menards/Peak Chevrolet performs the way I expect it to and we'll be able to avoid any trouble that might happen around us tomorrow. I like this track a lot and we all want to leave here with a good result."
