Carl Edwards, driver of the No. 60 Fusion, grabbed his first pole of the season today at California Speedway, prior to tonight's running of the Stater Bros. 300. Edwards, who has five career Busch poles, commented on his qualifying run.

CARL EDWARDS -60-Ameriquest Mortgage Ford Fusion (Qualified 1st)

"I've got to give it to my crew, those guys did a great job. The whole Ameriquest team is really working hard. We got ourselves in a hole at Daytona. We got very fortunate with the cloud cover there, but it was still a fun lap to drive. It was a little loose, but that's fun for me."

DID THE LATE DRAW HELP YOU TODAY?

"The weather is such a big factor. It's such a long corner that any little bit of grip you can get helps. We thought at first that the late draw was going to be bad for us, but it ended up being a good thing. Heck, man, we'll take it. I think if we would have gone out there in the heat, we'd have struggled to run that fast. It's still fun to do. It's fun to sit on the pole."

YOU'VE EXPERIENCED A LOT OF SUCCESS AT THE IMPOUND RACES. TO WHAT DO YOU ATTRIBUTE THAT SUCCESS?

"That just comes from a lot of planning from the crew. Those guys are really smart, everybody over there at Roush. We've got P.K. (Pierre Kuettel), who's my new crew chief; he's working really hard to figure this thing out. We've got a new engineer, Matt (Lucas); he's doing a great job. The whole team has to plan for this, and plan for these impound races. I feel that's what separates us as a team."
