March 24, 2001 Bristol Motor Speedway
JEFF GREEN-10-Nestle Nesquik Ford Taurus (Finished 36th, Retired Lap 76)
"I have no idea what happened. They all started wrecking in front of me and I slowed down, but I guess too much and they got into me from the back end. It's just Bristol. Unfortunately, it's two races that we have to come here and take a chance on losing points. I would have liked to win this race and I think I had a car to do it, we just qualified too bad and then when people wreck every five laps, it never gives you a chance to get your car working, and the other guys whose cars aren't working too good, we can pass them. Everyone wants to be on the bottom, which is the fastest way around here. But it's all about blocking. It's like a restrictor-plate race is, it's not very much fun."
THIS IS YOUR FIRST BAD BREAK OF THE YEAR.
"I hope it's our last. This is just very disappointing but what do you do? These guys are out here trying to do their best, but then again, the short fields are putting people in here that don't need to be in here anyway. They're out there in the way and I don't know what caused it, but I'm blaming it on that. That's some of it; it happens every week. The short fields, people going home is better than people that shouldn't be racing."
RYAN NEWMAN>/b>-02-ALLTEL Ford Taurus (Finished 6th)
"That's not bad. We got shuffled back there for a little bit, got caught behind some lapped cars. The crew kept working hard, we had good pit stops all day. I just have to thank Roger Penske and Don Miller for giving me the chance and owning the thing."
WHAT ABOUT ALL THE LAPPED TRAFFIC?
"Everybody pretty much stayed out of the way at the end and I guess that's the typical Bristol. You're going to have cars that can't go as fast as others because they get involved in short-track accidents, that's about all there is. Now we head to Texas next week where we're taking the same car we had at Atlanta. It's got one race on it and it set the track record there, and we had a really good test there."
DO YOU THINK YOU'LL BE BETTER HERE IN THE FALL?
"Absolutely, I learned a lot today. I know that we'll be back here better than we were today. It's one thing to test at these tracks, but getting laps with 42 other cars really accelerates the learning curve."
GREG BIFFLE-60-Grainger Ford Taurus (Finished 30th)
YOU WERE INVOLVED IN THE BIG EIGHT-CAR ACCIDENT. WHAT HAPPENED?
"We didn't get the call for the caution quick enough and we ran into the back of the 92 car, and then we had all of the right-side guys trying to fix the fenders; we were just a victim of circumstances."
YOU SPENT SOME TIME IN THE GARAGE.
"The car had a flat tire, and nobody thought to put on four tires after we were in the wreck. We didn't check all four tires for air pressure and one was flat; we're still learning."
WE ALMOST SAW A RECORD NUMBER OF CAUTION FLAGS. WAS THAT DUE TO INEXPERIENCE.
"No, it was just due to people not using their heads, I'm embarrassed. I don't know if this is the kind of racing the fans like, seeing a lot of accidents, but it's sure no way to race for a championship. A lot of the top guys were taken out today, and it wasn't their faults, that's makes for a frustrating day."
