GIC Team Skips Texas To Refocus On Nashville
Last Minute Engine Problems Force No. 24 to Take a Week Off
Raleigh, NC -- Last minute engine troubles forced the No. 24 team to turn down the chance to attend this weekend's O'Reilly 300 NASCAR Busch Series race at Texas Motor Speedway. The team was preparing six new engines for use in upcoming weeks, and was unable to get the quality engine necessary to make a solid run in Texas.
The decision was reached to pass on Texas and focus on preparations for the April 10 Pepsi 300 at Nashville Superspeedway.
"As team owner, I decided we should use our energy to prepare for Nashville," said James Whitener. "We've got two new cars to go with the new engines under production, and I'm confident that the extra time we've gained to tweak things will pay off in the end."
Mike Harmon and the GIC Motorsports team plan to run the balance of the 2004 NBS season, and potentially may run some Nextel Cup Series races this year as well.
GIC Motorsports is owned by James Whitener and fields the No. 24 Chevrolet Monte Carlo in the NASCAR Busch Series.
