Harvick will be tough to beat on Saturday; in ten starts this year, he has posted 10 top-ten results, including eight top fives, and three wins. Harvick's fast lap of 167.516 mph just bested the second place effort of Jamie McMurray, who ran a 167.373 mph.

"I didn't think anybody could run that fast," said McMurray. "Kevin went out after us and was a little bit quicker."

Kasey Kahne's lap of 167.174 mph placed him third. This is Kahne's best start at Darlington; previously he had never started higher than 25th.

"I think its finally coming together," said Kahne. "We've qualified pretty good all year long. We're going back to some of the tracks that we've been to, and I raced Michigan last year, and I raced Darlington last year and this year, and I think just going back to some of the tracks with the things we've learned throughout the year and applying them to our set-ups we had earlier in the year is definitely making us better."

Brian Vickers was fourth; Greg Biffle rounded out the top five.

Championship leader Scott Riggs placed 16th, while second place contender David Green will take the green flag from 9th.

"I knew it was slick," said Riggs. "But it was way loose for us. The heat makes it slick, and all four tires should slide the same, but for some reason we were way too loose and that's it."

Riggs and Green are locked in a tight battle for the NBS title. Green trails Riggs by a mere 28-point margin.
